Lawrence Edgar Ploor, age 93 of Bowie MD, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on June 26, 2025. Born on 7/18/1932 in Suitland MD, he was the son of Ida and Frank Ploor. Larry was a devoted husband, father and grandfather, affectionately called PopPop by his grandkids. He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister, Kay Small and his brothers, William and Frank Ploor. Larry was survived by his loving wife of 70 years, Martha; his children, David (Karen), Tina (Kim), Steve (Johnnie) and Tim (Sue); his 4 grandchildren, Matthew, Rachel, Steven and Timmy and his 2 great grandchildren, Nathan and Peyton.
Larry worked at The Library of Congress where he met the love of his life, Martha. He spent 20 years with Continental Baking Company (Wonder Bread) and retired from Standard Coffee Company. Larry also served his country, 2 years with the Army in France and Germany.
Larry devoted his life to serving the Lord thru The Lutheran Church, in many capacities throughout his life. Some of those included President of Council, Chairman of Fellowship Committee, Parish Administrator and Properties Committee. Larry was well known throughout the church for not taking “No” as an answer when collecting for the church. So much so that some of the congregation would dodge him. Larry had a rare gift for making others smile and laugh, leaving a lasting impact on all who crossed his path.
Larry and Martha spent much of their retirement traveling this country and others.
