Mian Abbas Obituary

Mian M Abbas was born on June 22,1933 and passed away on Dec 5, 2024 in Huntsville, AL. He spent his childhood and early years in Amritsar, India and Rawalpindi, Pakistan. He migrated to Canada in 1957 and received his Ph D from the University of Rhode Island. He had a long and productive career as a professor at the Universities of Ohio and Kentucky then Drexel University. He moved to Huntsville to join NASA Marshall Space Flight Center as a space scientist where his research involved planetary atmospheres and interstellar dust. He had 5 brothers and 2 sisters and is survived by brothers Masood, Munir and Rashid. He cherished his family. He will be deeply missed by his wife of 63 years Adiba, sons Danial Hamid and Omar, daughters Rashida and Sheerin, their spouses Tony and Jeff, grandsons Eshan, Kamran, Zayan and granddaughter Noreen.

Dr Mian Abbas was a great scientist and contributor to the Cassini space mission. I recall some wonderful scientific debates with him. His keen intellect and insights will be missed. He leaves a distinguished legacy in space science with robust footprints for his colleagues to follow.
