Nancy Donaldson Obituary

On Sunday, October 20, 2024, Nancy Ruth Donaldson (age 82) of Severn, MD, formerly of York, SC went to join our Lord at her home with family by her side after a long battle with cancer. Nancy was born on May 15, 1942 in Baltimore Maryland, to the late Charles William and Ruth Edith O’Neill. She was also preceded in death by her brother Charles W. O’Neill Jr. She is survived by her children John G. Sullivan Jr. (Vivian), Daniel M. Sullivan (Geri), Richard L. Sanders Jr. (Sofie), Debbie Stockstill (Brian), Rebecca Sanders, and Jeffrey J. Sanders (Lisa), her grandchildren Britney, Max, Nikole, Zackary, Laura, Gregory, Kristen, Matthew, Erik, Amanda, Lanie, Melissa, Bronson, Jessica and Julia, and 15 great-grandchildren, her sister, Patricia Renes (Mike) and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Nancy spent her early years in Linthicum Heights before the family moved to Brooklyn Park where she attended Belle Grove Elementary and graduated from Brooklyn Park Jr./Sr. High school. She began working for Montgomery Ward at the age of 16 in their Monroe Street location in the retail and catalog areas. Nancy continued working for Wards for many years in various locations with many duties including running the cash office in their Laurel location. She married John Sullivan and welcomed 2 sons, John Jr. and Daniel. After their divorce, she married Richard Sanders (Dick) and welcomed 4 more children to the family, Debbie, Becky, Rich, and Jay. Nancy welcomed all to her home with frequent gatherings for family and friends. After Dicks passing in 1998, she left Montgomery Ward and began working at Cardinal Gibbons High School in the administrative office. Nancy was introduced to Michael Donaldson by her cousin Dot Haynes. Nancy and Mike fell in love. She retired from Cardinal Gibbons and married Mike in 2001 moving to Charlotte North Carolina. She and Mike moved to York South Carolina where they resided until his passing in 2022. Nancy then returned to her Maryland roots to be close to her family.

Nancy enjoyed gardening, decorating her home, spending time with her family and her many pets. She was an avid reader of mysteries and romance novels. She was very crafty and enjoyed needlepoint, macrame, ceramics and flowers. She was always on the lookout for a new flower to plant in her many flower beds and natural areas. She had an affinity for crepe myrtle, star gazer lilies and pink roses. She filled her yard with bird houses, bird feeders and bird baths as she loved to watch nature, the birds, the squirrels and the occasional deer and foxes.

She was a devoted mother, friend and coworker. She and Mike joined the Dixieland Cruisers with their classic cars at 40 Chevy and Mustang convertible. They enjoyed cruise-ins and car shows receiving many awards. Nancy was the treasure of the Dixieland Cruisers for many years and raised money for the local Make-A-Wish foundation.
