Patrick Janssen Obituary

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Pat Janssen, a loving, dedicated husband, brother-in-law, uncle, and friend, who left us on June 3, 2025 at the age of 76. Pat was born on December 9, 1948 to the late Louis and Doris Keener Janssen. Pat was the beloved, cherished husband of his devoted wife of 42 years Debra Ann Nowicki Janssen. Pat's life was marked by dedication, love, and an unwavering spirit of generosity, loyalty, honesty, integrity and compassion.

His career as a carpenter, structural superintendent and engineer was distinguished by hard work and strong moral and ethical standards such as fairness, respect, and responsibility. His hands were not only skilled for the job, but were always ready to fix and build for everyone around him. He was truly a "jack of all trades" with a heart of gold. He was both versatile and resourceful.

A man of many interests, Pat found joy in the simple pleasures of life. In addition, accumulating collector cars especially Corvettes was not just a hobby but a passion. He enjoyed attending car shows and auctions with friends notably Carlisle and Barrett-Jackson and he fine-tuned "The Art of the Deal". Another passion was flying his Decathlon airplane. He mastered a wide range of aerobatic maneuvers.

Those who knew Pat would describe him as selfless, wise, proud, brilliant, kind hearted and bluntly honest. There was no pretense with Pat. He was a man of strong character and quick wit with a zeal for life, fast cars and airplanes, and a sense of adventure. Pat was strong and courageous especially with his battle with autoimmune diseases, pulmonary fibrosis, kidney end-stage renal failure and congestive heart failure. He never complained and suffered silently.

Pat's passing leaves a void in the world; however, his spirit remains in the hearts of those who loved and knew him. He will be deeply missed but forever remembered with affection and admiration. May he finally be out of pain and rest in peace.

To honor Pat's memory a Celebration of Life will be held at the Sparrows Point Country Club (where he was married to Debra 42 ½ years ago), 919 Wise Avenue, Dundalk 21222 on Sunday September 14, 2025 from 1:00-3:00 pm. Lite fare served. Please RSVP to Debra at dnjanssen55@yahoo.com by August 24.

As we gather to reminisce and honor Pat, we welcome all who were touched by him. Your presence will contribute to his memory and the remarkable man he was.

It is with a heavy and sad heart to hear of Pat's passing.
I have known Pat for over 25 years. I met him at Corvettes of Carlisle car show in PA. Being in the Corvette selling and judging for 34 years he saw me looking at corvettes and listened to me talking to the owners. I guess he could see I knew corvettes well and also bought several. We started talking and became friends. Mecum auction also had in those days a car auction at the same location. I invited Pat to come along to the auction with my friend Jim (large car collector). We always received preferential treatment as VIP's of Mecum. Needless to say Pat enjoyed every event. We did this for several years. I got to meet Deb and the wolf dogs. Such nice people and true friends. Pat was in envy and felt a little out of place, as was I, meeting with all these pretentious big car collectors and dealers from all over the country. I will never forget when my friend Jim was talking to a group of big dealers and one of them asked, "why do you hang around with this guy". Jim remarked back, "I won't buy a corvette unless John looks at it". Pat and I laughed. We were now in the click. I was at Carlise that Pat purchased the 1966 Corvette coupe.
A couple of years passed and we spoke for hours on the phone. I am in CA. We talked about everything. Corvettes, guns, family issues. A lot. I finally talked Pat into coming West for the Barrett Jackson Auction in AZ. He finally came over and met my family. He stayed with us, visited my shop. We both had a great time. Off to AZ we went. Pat thought he was in Disneyland of cars. 5 auctions in the same week along with multiple car shows. Back then I would take cars to Barrett Jackson to sell and buy at 2 other auctions. Pat got a taste of my work life. Long and hectic. Not just glamor. He helped me with my cars, cleaning and staging them. I watched him smile when he was on stage. Funny.
We both had a great time and I especially enjoyed his company and help.
Pat bought the 1962 Corvette from me which he loved and enjoyed for many years.
I always told him that I wanted to visit with the family and tour DC. Regretfully that never happened. Sorry Pat and Deb.
Commiserations Deb on your loss. I hope you find comfort that he is in a better place.
Sadly missed.
Your friend John
