Rowena Dupaya Mejia, a vivacious and loving young woman who dedicated over 20 years of her life as a registered nurse with most of those years at Mercy Medical Center, passed away on August 5, 2024. Born on July 3, 1969, in the Philippines, Rowena leaves behind a legacy of compassion, love and care that will forever be remembered by those whose lives she touched.
Throughout her career, Rowena was not only professional but also kind and empathetic with her patients. In her personal life, Rowena was known for her adventurous spirit and zest for life. She found joy in traveling and exploring new countries and places, dancing, sharing her mad Zumba skills with others, skiing down snowy slopes, conquering challenging climbs and fostering cats for local rescues. She also cherished the time with her family and friends – of which she had so many!
In the hearts of all who knew her, Rowena will be remembered for her smile that lit up the room when she entered, as a caring nurse to her patients and coworkers, a compassionate and loving friend to those who knew her, and a free spirit who lived life to the fullest. She is survived by her mother, Leonila D. Mejia; her brothers, Dexter Mejia and his wife, Kandi; and Nelson Mejia; her nephew, Brandon Mejia; her dear friend Merrill Chaus; her long-time high school friends and Teacher-Mom Melfa; her nurse friends and co-workers; and her Zumba friends. Rowena was preceded in death by her father, Teofilo Mejia.
Rowena’s presence will be deeply missed, but her impact on the lives she touched will be remembered forever. May she rest in peace and dance among the stars.
