Darlene Chaney

Darlene Lotson Chaney was born Jan. 4, 1957. She departed this mortal plane on June 12, 2025, at the age of 68.

Darlene grew up in Carneghan Emmanuel Baptist Church, where she was baptized by the late Rev. J.F. Mann. She later went on to join St. Paul African Methodist Episcopal Church, where she sang in the young adult choir. Her final church was Payne Chapel African Methodist Episcopal Church, where she served as a Sunday School teacher, stewardess and choir member.

Darlene enjoyed cruising and vacationing with her family, collection and planting flowers, feeding the neighborhood cats and being a part of the "birdies."

Darlene is survived by her husband, Michael Anthony Chaney; and her two children, Michael and Michelle Chaney; her aunt, Delores Lemon (Elder Lawrence Lemon); her uncle, William Lotson Jr. (Sharon Shingles).

She was the only child of Claire Stafford, but is survived by a host of siblings, nieces, nephews, brothers and sisters-in-law, cousins, a godson, a god brother and a host of family and friends who love her dearly. For the sake of brevity, they will not be listed individually by name.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Claire Marie Stafford, Dave Alfonza Stafford and Melvin Pinkney; and her mother-in-law, Annie Maude Chaney.

A walk-through viewing will be held from 4-6 p.m. today at Darien Funeral Home.

The service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, June 20, 2025, at Payne Chapel AME Church, 2200 Albany St., in Brunswick.

Darien Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
