D.R. Thomas

D.R. Thomas was born on July 22, 1936, in Savannah to Ray Edward and Myrtle Thomas. He died on Sept. 2, 2025.

They moved to Brunswick in 1937. He graduated from Glynn Academy in 1954, where he served on the student council and played football and baseball. He graduated from Georgia Tech in 1960 with a degree in industrial management.

He married Glatis Tapley from Swainsboro. They returned to Brunswick where he worked in the family business as a construction superintendent building gypsum plants, wood chip mills and residences. He moved to Watkinsville after the death of his wife in 2018.

D.R. is survived by his daughter, Donna Fogle; two sons, Douglas and Michael Thomas; five grandchildren, Don and Christina Thomas, Ali Rioux, Ben Fogle and Megan Flynn; and seven great-grandchildren.

He enjoyed golf, fishing, cooking and gardening, and served as the President of the Board of Directors of The Brunswick Country Club.
