Robert Hendrix Obituary

Robert Hendrix

Robert Allen Hendrix passed away on July 8, 2021, peacefully at home in The Villages, Florida. In recent years, he had battled several serious medical issues. Bob showed courage in facing life challenges, always with a smile.

He was born on Sept. 5, 1954, in Brunswick, Georgia, to the late Dr. Otis Robert Hendrix and Ann Harris Hendrix. He is survived by his sons and their wives, Robert Bowen and Jordan Hendrix of Dallas, Texas, and Harris Nichols and Helen Marie English of St. Simons Island, Georgia; and two granddaughters, Ella Palmer and Malin James Hendrix. He is also survived by his sister and her husband, Laura Hendrix and Jimmy Post of Key Largo, Florida; and her children, Robert Turner Catledge and Katie Catledge Owens of Atlanta, Georgia, and Harrison Luke Catledge of New York, New York. In addition, he is survived by cousins from Augusta, Georgia, and Grady, Alabama.

Bob graduated from Brunswick High School and Valdosta State College with a degree in history where he was member of the Kappa Alpha Order. He was a stockbroker with Robinson Humphrey, for several years, in Valdosta, Georgia. His next career was in the tourism field where he was the Director of the Convention and Visitors Bureau in Dothan, Alabama, until his retirement. Bob made friends easily and cherished them all. He enjoyed playing golf, the Georgia Bulldogs, history, and beach music. Bob was an immensely proud father and grandfather, and he dearly loved his faithful dog, Winston. He had a strong faith in God and was a member of the Episcopal Church of The Nativity in Dothan, Alabama.

A memorial service for Bob will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, July 30 at Christ Church, St. Simons Island.

In lieu of flowers; if you would like to make a contribution, please send to the Diabetes Research Institute or the Kappa Alpha Order Educational Foundation, P.O. Box 1865, Lexington, VA 24450.

We will continue to honor his legacy by living our lives to the fullest. Be Young, Be Foolish, but Be Happy!

Bob was the ultimate optimist and was able to make me see that glass half full at an early age. Bob introduced me to Captain America back in the late 60's, and how I appreciate that now with the flood of Marvel movies. He played drums and had an impressive concert poster collection, a real music enthusiast. Bob was a lifeguard at Sea Island Beach Club and would drive us home if we were stranded there, he was always gracious and never complained because he always saw the fun in everything. Its been awhile since I saw him in Milton visiting Laura, he hadn't changed a bit and was excited about his tourism gig. To his family please accept my sincerest sympathy, the world was a better place with Bob in it.

To Bob´s family. Bob was one of the good guys. He was a dear friend for decades through the tourism industry. He was a great dancer, delightful conversationalist and could rock a turtle neck like no one else. I will miss him greatly. Our tourism conferences will not be the same without him. My sincere sympathy is extended to you all. He loved him family!
