Steven Gregory

Steven Lewis Gregory of St. Simons Island passed away on Sept. 23, 2025, at Southeast Georgia Health System following complications from a stroke.

Steven was born on April 20, 1953, in Asheville, North Carolina. At the age of two, he moved with his family to St. Simons Island, a place that would forever hold a special place in his heart. He attended Glynn Paton School in Brunswick and Hope School in Miami.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Howard and Jenny Gregory; and his brother, Richard Gregory. Steven is survived by his sisters, Janice Cook and her husband, Arthur Cook, and Sandy Oberry and her husband, Steve Blanton. Several nieces and nephews also remain to cherish his memory.

In addition to his family, Steven was blessed with special friends who shared in his life's journey - Joe McDonough, Wright Culpepper and Deb Luginbuhl. Their kindness and support were invaluable. Many other businesses and residents of St. Simons and Brunswick cared for him, and their kindness is appreciated.

Steven was known for his free spirit and his unwavering love for St. Simons Island. He wished never to leave the Island, regardless of any obstacles he faced. He rode his bike throughout the Island and Glynn County, forming connections with many caring individuals who offered support, friendship and love. Raised in the First Baptist Church, Steven was a Christian with a deep faith in the power of the goodness of God.

Steven will be laid to rest in the Columbarium at Oglethorpe Gardens. A blessing will be held in his honor and will be announced. Chapman Funeral Home is overseeing the arrangements.
