William Reiss Obituary
Dr. William Dean Reiss of Brunswick, Ga., passed away Wednesday, April 6, 2022, at the age of 84.
The youngest son of Rolla and Edna Reiss, Bill grew up in Lebanon, Ill., with a love of the art and science of agriculture and telling stories. He found love and married the former Dixie Mauck, who preceded him in death in 2001. Three sons survive Bill and Dixie, Roger, David, and John, who took their patient, firm, and fair lessons to heart. He is also survived by his granddaughter Olivia. Bill found love again and remarried in 2005 and is survived by the former Eve Crone and her son Karl. Bill and Eve enjoyed their retirement and travels throughout the world, while brightening their community in Brunswick.
Bill was a research agronomist who earned his Ph.D. from the University of Illinois and served for many years in the Purdue University Agronomy department, including an extended foreign assignment with his family improving agricultural practices in Brazil. He later entered the private sector, providing technical expertise to several seed development and production companies. Never one to rest, he enjoyed his retirement years providing services for the Glynn County, Ga., extension office solving plant mysteries and encouraging people to beautify their outdoor spaces.
A loving husband, father, and grandfather, Bill was known for his kind heart, quick wit, a ready story, and meticulous attention to detail - particularly in friendly card games. He was a respected member of his profession, and his smile and personal integrity encouraged all around him to better themselves. Bill was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Brunswick.
A celebration of life for his family, neighbors, and community will take place from 4-6 p.m. Friday, April 15, at the Peppertree Crossing Clubhouse.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a donation made in his name to Hospice of the Golden Isles.
