Zondra McRae

Zondra Felicia McRae, a devoted educator, woman of faith and loving soul, passed away peacefully on Aug. 19, 2025, at the age of 64.

She is preceded in death by Louise "Blossom" Ward Hall, Isaiah Hall, Vonda Velicia McRae, Michael McRae and Gerald McRae; her dear aunt, Vondell Holliman (Carson); and her beloved cousin, Willie Carl Mitchell.

Born on March 12, 1961, Zondra was baptized at an early age in Monterey, California - a spiritual commitment that would anchor her life. She later graduated from Oakwood University with a Bachelor of Science in Education, embracing a lifelong mission to teach, mentor and uplift others.

Zondra dedicated over 20 years of service to the children and families of Dekalb County, where she worked as a teacher until her retirement. Her classroom was more than a place of learning - it was a place of love, discipline, inspiration and unwavering support. She had a deep passion for helping children grow not just academically, but emotionally and spiritually.

Zondra had a zeal for souls and a heart grounded in Scripture. She loved reading the Bible, and her favorite biblical scripture, (John 17:3--And this is life eternal, that they might know thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent), offered her strength and guidance throughout her life. She was a kindhearted, generous and loving woman whose warmth radiated to everyone she encountered.

Zondra had a joyful spirit and was known to always sing - whether in worship, in the classroom or simply to lift the hearts of those around her. Her voice was a beautiful expression of her faith and kindness, leaving a lasting melody in the memories of all who knew her.

Zondra leaves to cherish her memory her devoted mother Barbara Hall; loving brothers, Marvin McRae Jr., Shahad Ali, Saida Ali and Percy McRae; and her dear aunts, Khadijah Ahlam-Muhammad and Inez Davis; and her uncle, Horace Hall. She was a proud aunt to Marvin McRae III (Tiffany) and Shawandria McRae (Tim); and a joyful great-aunt to Derron, Isaiah, Talia, Timothy, Nyla, Timijah, Zoe, TimLayjah and August, whom she adored deeply.

She is lovingly remembered by her first cousins, Verika (Joe), Mark, Eric and CJ (Shantric). Also there is a host of extended family members, One True God Church members, former students, colleagues and friends who were blessed by her presence.

Zondra Felicia McRae's legacy lives on in the hearts of all who knew her. Her life was a testament to faith, service and compassion- a light that will never be extinguished by Satan.

A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, Aug. 29, 2025, at Greenwood Cemetery.
