Eloise Vasquez Obituary

Salinas

Eloise M. Vasquez

Eloise Morales Vasquez was granted her angel wings on Sunday, September 23, 2012 in Salinas, with her family by her side, including her devoted husband and soul mate of 48 years, Jose Lopez. She was 88 years old.

As the mother of eight children and grandma to numerous grandchildren across five generations, Eloise was loved by many and considered her family's 'queen bee.' She will always be remembered for her witty and wise storytelling; feisty sense of humor; impeccable sense of style; and the immense love and pride she had for her family. She loved to attend family events, dance, sing and live life to the fullest.

Art was her other big passion in life. An avid painter, Eloise created hundreds of works of art over the course of her lifetime. Known for her bright and colorful paintings, Eloise's art reflected her vibrant spirit and personality. Several of Eloise's paintings also paid homage to her Native American heritage.

Eloise's creative legacy will live on through her family, which includes artists of all types. Most notably, her two sons, musicians Lolly and Pat Vegas, were founding members of the 1970's rock group, Redbone, which produced the hit single, "Come and Get Your Love" in 1975.

Born in Pecos, Texas on July 28, 1924, Eloise spent her adult life in California, living in cities including Fresno, Salinas, Los Angeles and Sunnyvale. In 2000, she re-settled in Salinas to be closer to family.

She was preceded in death by children, Sylvia Morales and Lolly Vegas; siblings Frank, Refugio, Petra and Tiburcia Morales; and parents, Antonio and Belen Morales

Eloise is survived by her husband, Jose Lopez; children, Rudy Montanez, Pat Vegas, Marie Vasquez, Theresa Vasquez-Gonzales, Raymond Vasquez and Lynda Villagomez; and sister, Peggy Peña.

Eloise's family would like to extend a sincere thank you to the staff at Kindred Nursing and Transitional Care - Pacific Coast for providing care and comfort for their beloved mother and grandmother throughout her final days.

A Memorial Mass service will be held to celebrate the wonderful life of Eloise on Tuesday, October 2, 2012 at 1:30 p.m., at her favorite church, St. Mary of the Nativity, 424 Towt St., Salinas, CA 93905.
