Mandan, North Dakota

James "Jim" Weferling

Jim Weferling, 70, long time resident of Lockwood, passed away Monday, April 25, 2011, in Mandan, North Dakota.

Jim was born July 23, 1940, in Paso Robles. He grew up in Bryson - Hesperia and Lockwood Valley and went to Cal Poly in San Luis Obispo where he studied Agriculture. Jim was a custom farmer and farmed his family's land with his father and brother. Jim was also the proprieter of the Lockwood Store and Caf? which he operated for many years, until retiring and moving to North Dakota in 2006.

Jim enjoyed hunting and driving around surveying the countryside…for Jim what started out as a simple trip to town could turn into an all day excursion as he enjoyed taking in nature's beauty.

Jim was preceded in death by his wife, Peg; his parents, Ernest and Edna Weferling and brother, Duane Weferling.

He is survived by his sister, Bernice Maxwell of Paso Robles; his nephews, Robert Weferling of Minden, NV and Gene Weferling of Lockwood; nieces, Duanelle Weferling of Las Vegas, NV, Dottie Massey of Salinas, Dianna Palmer of Lockwood, Ivanna Victorino of Lockwood and Robin Olmstead of Fletcher, OK.; as well as several great nieces and nephews, and many friends, all of whom share the pain of his loss.

A Memorial service will be held at a later date.

Even if he forgot your name, he always had a nice "Hi,Sweetheart" for a greeting. On Dad's 60th Birthday he brought him a huge bottle of Jim Beam!! I had that bottle for about 6 years - finally finished it. He was a sweet man. I still look for him in the store when I stop by there on my way to see Dad.

Jim was a Lockwood Icon ~ that is for certain! He always remembered my name, long after I moved from Lockwood and would stop in the store on occasion... Amazing memory...

I remember Jim, from when my Granddad (Bob "Cowboy" Thommarson) used to take me into the Cafe in Lockwood and I would have the best grilled cheese sandwich ever! I used to love listening to my granddad and Jim tell stories.
Thoughts and prayers are with your family during this time of loss.
RIP Jim.

He was the good ol' boy, visited mom & dad in Bryson often, and with 22rifle out the window of the vehicle took out the more dam squirrels than any other person in the world! Huh!! Great man cool friend, lucky to have known him. He'd say to me "how ya doin' Calmrad".
