Robert Lee Nicholas, 81, of Salinas, passed away Tuesday, April 5, 2016. He was born April 11, 1934, in Mississippi.
He was a member of the American Legion Post No. 31.
He was an Electrician and Musician.
Robert served in the U.S. Navy.
He was preceded in death by his daughters, Robin and Debbie.
He is survived by his wife of 20 years, Gayle Nicholas; daughters, Ann Thomas McDaniel, Lisa Word, Kim Ornalas, and many grandchildren, great- grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, April 24, 2016, at American Legion Post No. 31, 14 West Laurel Drive, Salinas, CA 93906.
Donations can be made to the Cancer Research or GateWay Center, 850 Congress Ave., Pacific Grove, CA 93950.

Gayle, we are so sorry and wish we could have attended Nick's Celebration of Life. We hold a special place in our heart and have such wonderful memories of the fun times we had with you and Nick. RIP sweet dear man. A true southern gentleman.!!

So, So Sorry to hear of Nick's Passing.
I wish to express my condolence to Gayle and all of Nick's family.
Rest in Peace Buddy.
I hope they have a guitar where you are. ( Nick and I debated where we would go in the afterlife )
Nick and I were the same age and we commiserated " being old ". Nick was a fun guy, I enjoyed teasing him and getting a reaction.
A great story Nick told was, since he was a musician, when he first arrived in Salinas a band heard that he played guitar and invited Nick to sit it. They handed him a guitar and he started to play. Problem was they all thought he was strange playing the guitar upside down. They didn't know Nick was left handed and they didn't have a left handed guitar. :-) They were all amazed that he could play a right handed guitar, left handed. He played it very well too.
