It is with great sadness that we share the loss of our family matriarch, Rosa C. Sarmiento "Rose".
Mom was born Jan. 18, 1930, in Malate, Manila, Philippines. She met the love of her life, our dad, Santos H. Sarmiento (Deceased) SFC, U.S Army Retired.
She was a resident of Castroville for 56 years and was employed by Artichoke Industries for 23 years in Castroville. Mom loved traveling and living in countries such as Germany, England, France, Italy, Spain, Philippines, Mexico and throughout mainland USA to include Alaska and Hawaii.
Listening and dancing to music, singing Karaoke, playing cards, hosting family get togethers, she loved all her pet cats and dogs as if they were her children too and enjoyed her fresh fruits and gardening.
She was preceded in death by our dad, Santos H. Sarmiento, and our sister Jacine (Cindy) Sarmiento-Hewitt.
She is survived by her daughters, Sola "Jane" Sarmiento of Santa Cruz and Avelina Sarmiento-Buijs (Richard) of Oakland; her son, Ed Sarmiento, MSgt, U.S. Air Force Retired of Kapolei, Hawaii; her grandchildren, Gabriel Sarmiento of Santa Cruz, Jacine Hewitt-Harr(Shawn) of Altoona, PA, Max Hewitt of Santa Cruz, Jasmine Buijs and Athena Sarmiento of Oakland; her great-grandchildren, Piper Harr, Shawn Harr Jr. of Altoona, PA, and numerous nieces and nephews.
We would like to thank all of our family and friends throughout the world that have sent us much love, support and condolences. "Mahalo Nui Loa"
Visitation will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday, June 17, 2016, at Our Lady of Refuge Church, 11140 Preston St., Castroville, CA 95012.
Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, June 17, 2016, at Our Lady of Refuge Church, 11140 Preston St., Castroville, CA 95012.
Burial will follow at Castroville District Cemetery, 8442 Moss Landing Road, Moss Landing, CA 95039.
