Thomas Joseph Grainger

June 24, 1988 - March 5, 2017

Palmer, Alaska

Thomas Joseph Grainger was born June 24, 1988, in Salinas and passed away suddenly March 5, 2017, outside of Nome, Alaska.

Tom resided in Palmer, Alaska. He graduated from Salinas High School in 2006 and received his pilot's license that summer after graduating from high school. He received a degree in business from Sacramento State in 2010. Tom always dreamed about living in Alaska and drove there with a college buddy, in a beat-up old Ford Bronco, in the summer of 2010. He quickly settled into the Alaskan lifestyle, making many friends along the way. He also found his love, Kristina Roush and her beautiful daughter, Hannah. They were planning to be married in December of this year. Tom was widely known around Anchorage by the many people he dealt with in his job as a Traffic Control Supervisor and for his community involvement, especially his part in the annual Fur Rondy Festival that kicks off the Iditarod Dog Sled race. While living in Salinas Tom was involved in the California Rodeo, where he assisted his Dad in the announcing stand.

Tom is survived by his parents, Joe and Lori Grainger, of Salinas; his two sisters, Maggie and Brittney, of San Francisco; his grandparents, Manuel and Laura Gularte of Salinas, and many aunts, uncles, and cousins. He also leaves behind his fiancée, Kristina Roush and his soon to be step-daughter, Hannah of Palmer, Alaska.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 11:00 a.m. Sunday, March 19, 2017, at the Rodeo Grounds in Salinas.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Tom's name to your favorite charity.

Tom's quick wit, incredible smile, giving heart, and sense of humor will be forever and deeply missed.

Lori,
I am so very sorry. Love and prayers to you and your family.

Lori,

Our family was so sorry to hear about your son Tom. We hope you and your family can find comfort in the memories that you all shared together.. Sons are special and seem to grow up very fast, they pursue the adventure that their hearts lead them to, they seem to enjoy life to the fullest but they never forget where they came from and where they grew up. Tom's adventure to Alaska must have been so special for him as it sounds he found the love of his life and a family of his own.

Our thoughts and prayers are with you Lori and your family.
