Thomas Jason Obituary

Salinas

Thomas "Tom" Jason

Thomas "Tom" Jason, 67, of Salinas, passed away Saturday, February 25, 2012, of a cardiac event in his home. He was born March 14, 1944, and lived most of his life in Salinas.

Tom graduated from Salinas High School in 1961 where he was on the swim team. He served in the Navy on a submarine; he was a Navy diver and won numerous medals for the Navy swim team. Tom also graduated from Hartnell College. Tom was a retired Building Inspector for the County of Monterey for more than 20 years. He was a member of the Elks Lodge, the American Legion and Monterey Bay H.O.G.

Tom loved to ride his Harley's, camp, fish, travel, take pictures and enjoy life. Tom was a loving father, grandfather, and friend. We will all deeply mourn the loss of such a good man and remember the great times with him.

Tom was preceded in death by his mother, Lucille (Lu) Deighton and his father, Filemon Jason.

He is survived by his children, Chris Jason (Stephanie) of Orangevale, Kim Kahale of Hawaii and Skyler Davis; and grandchildren, Logan and Riley Jason of Orangevale, Kiana and Kinoa Kahale of Hawaii. He is also survived by countless close friends and way too many girlfriends to mention.

A celebration of life will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, March 10, 2012, at the Struve and Laporte Chapel, 41 W. San Luis St., Salinas, CA 93901.

Tommy Jason was one of the nicest persons to ever grace this planet. He was gracious, had impeccable manners and a wonderful personality, He was a man with a high degree of respect and integrity. Everyone who knew him loved him because he always cared for his friends and family . I am so sorry that he was taken from us at such a young age and I think of him often reminiscing when we were kids attending Sacred Heart Catholic School in Salinas. God bless and keep his soul for eternity.
Sincerely
Ernie Boutte'

I just found this after 60 years of not finding Tommy. I am Steve Markley and I lived on California Street right across the street from Tommy. We were friends growing up from 3 yrs to 7 yrs old. Then we moved to North Salinas and I lost track after awhile. This is so sad to find out. My heart felt prayers go out to his family and friends.

We last saw Tom on Super Bowl weekend, and talked with him last just a few days later when he called to let us know the GOOD news on his medical test results. We were just getting ready to plan celebrating his birthday....He will be missed deeply. By myself. And my son. Very difficult for a 7 year old to grasp the passing of his father. Skyler loved his dad very much and it still hits him every day that he has passed. I would love to stay in contact with Tom's longtime friends since Tom had very little family. [email protected]

He wasn't Tommy to me, he was Uncle Tommy, my God-Father & my Father Dave best-friend & brother. He was there for me, my parents, sisters & my entire family no matter what time or day or how far he had to go. A real stand-up Man to say the least! My heart is at a loss but my memories are forever! I will Love you Always Uncle Tommy! <3

My parents were friends with Tommy's parents since the 1940s. Tommy and my brother, Dave, were close friends even until they were "middle aged". Dave used to tell people that they were brothers but HE was the good looking one! ..... David died, suddenly, 13 years ago today! After calling 911, doing CPR and the arrival of paramedics, I called Tommy. He met me at the hospital. Dad died 20 hours later. Tommy was one of their pallbearers. Shortly afterwards, Mom died and Tommy was there for me, again. I am saddened to learn about Tommy's death. He was a good man. ... I have a photo of Tommy with my brother and would like to share it by email or mail with his children if it is appropriate or desired by any of them.

I haven't seen Tom in over 10 years, not sense my retirement from Monterey County Dept. of Public Works. Tom was always a good friend, we would sometimes work properties together, each doing our own thing. I remember how many times at the end of the day while gassing my car he would drive up, get out and talk with me. Tom was a very kindhearted and pleasant man, if I needed to speak with him about something, personal or business, he always made time for me, we would talk and laugh and afterwards I would always have a clearer idea of how to proceed. I regret very deeply how time has passed, it seems so quickly, and I have not had the opportunity to speak with him and laugh once again together. He was a very good man and friend and I'll never forget him.

Although I had not seen Tom in 20 years, I remember his kindness and his genuine heart. When I worked at the Planning and Building Inspection Department, he was always so nice to me and always had time to answer a question. He showed patience and thoughtfulness every day. My thoughts and prayers are with his family. Rest in Peace Tom.

I have known Tommy Jason as a friend for over 63 years. I met him when we were 5 years of age and both in the first grade at Sacred Heart Elementary School. He was the first to befriend me and was the nicest little boy I had ever met. He was like a ittle brother to me. We were inseparable and we spent many happy chiidhood days together playing at Schneider Park and having Sleepovers at each others houses. He was like part of my family and everyone in my family loved him becuase he had impeccable manners and was so nice. Over the years we drifted apart. After High School,we joined the US Navy at the same time, however, only saw each other, later in life, during our Sainas High School Reunions. Tommy loved Motorcycles and continued to ride even after his motorcycle accident. He always said that he was an experienced Rider and not to worry. I know, however, we did worry. The world will be a little bit darker without his smiling face. I know that he is with God and will continue to live on in our hearts and memories. He is gone but not forgotten. Goodbye ,my friend, until we meet again.
My wife, Eleanor and I would like to convey our hearfelt sympathy and condolenses to Tommy's family.

Sincerely,
With love and Compassion

Tom and I went to high school together and sometimes hung out and visited during the lunch break. Years later he helped me with blueprints for a new house. He would always stop what he was doing to help an old friend. He will be missed.

Tom has been my very good friend for approximately 40 years. I can truthfully say that he was my best friend. He was as close to me as a brother. We both worked together for the County and I used to enjoy our time together in the mornings before we went out to do our inspections. Tom was a very good person and he will be a asset in heaven. I will miss him very, very much. Dick Thornton,

Tommy,

We always called him Tommy. He was a childhood friend. He and my brother, Ernest, were really good friends and shared many exerpiences: They both went into the Navy and became "stars" in their own right. I was lucky enough to have dinner with Tommy and another friend just a week or two ago. He invited me to ride one of his motorcycle and I am sorry I didn't take the opportunity right away. Tommy was still handsome and playful. I am glad we had the opportunity to share a wonderful meal with another friend.

Tommie, it has been so nice to have you as a family friend all these years. We will miss you.

I worked with Tom for the County of Monterey. He was such a nice and friendly person. I remember the last time I saw him, it was on our way back from the Streets of Thunder in Reno. He looked so happy and it was so great to see him. He will always be in my thoughts.
My condolences to his family at the time of sorrow.
