Salinas
William E. Lawrence, 81, passed away Thursday, May 5, 2016, at Salinas Valley Memorial Hospital. He was born May 3, 1935 in Oakland, to Benjamin and Helen Lawrence.
He was raised in Napa by his foster parents, Sherwood and Ruth Munk. He then moved to Salinas while he was a teenager.
He graduated from Salinas High School in '53 and Hartnell College in '56. He became a Certified Public Accountant and worked as such for more than 40 years. His lifelong passion was painting, and he was fully devoted to his artwork after his retirement.
He was predeceased by his parents, and his sisters, Mary Feliciano and Virginia Faro.
He leaves his wife, Gail Lawrence; his children, Margaret (Alan) Alvarez and Martin (Natalie) Lawrence; brothers, Robert Lawrence, Ken Munk, Jim Munk, Bill Munk, Richard Munk, Cecil Plaskett, Jr., and Stephen Plaskett; two step-children and four grandchildren.
There will be no services at his request.
A Celebration of Life will be held from 12:00 to 3:00 p.m. Saturday, May 21, 2016, at his daughter's home: 17 Seca Place, Salinas, CA 93908.

I was a friend at SUHS with Bill in the '50's.
We played baseball there.
His unusually dry wit was a distinct part of his
personality, even when I visited him at the
hospital during his recovery from TB.
I remember him well.

My deepest sympathy for the loss of Bill. Thank God that we have wonderful memories of our loved ones to get us through these rough times. Gail, I cannot imagine the pain you must feel for the loss of your love and best friend. I am praying that our Lord will hold you in his arms and grant you peace.
