Joe Bunn Obituary
Joe Howard Bunn of Fancy Gap, VA passed away Friday November 14, 2025 at the Joan & Howard Woltz Hospice Home in Dobson, NC. He was born in Fancy Gap, VA on October 26, 1942. The family had visitation at the Vaughan-Guynn-McGrady Funeral Home in Hillsville, VA on Wednesday, November 19, 2025, from 5:00 PM – 7:00 PM. A graveside service for family and friends was held on Thursday.

My heart reaches out today to Joes children, grandchildren and sister as you lay your "Papajoe" to rest. I will always remember Joe as a quiet cousin who was always loving and kind. Over a lifetime of family time at the home of Uncle Rufus and Aunt Rita, I learned that Joe was devoted to God, family and his fellowman. He always showed a deep love for my dad, his Uncle Irvin. He and Ruth nurtured a beautiful and talented family. Please know that my heart is with you. I also pray that sweet memories will comfort you as you go forward.

I'll always remember going to "Papa Joe and Mama Ruth's", for annual Christmas parties with Troop 5. From teaching me to carve a totem pole as a cub scout, to assisting with my eagle scout project, Joe made quite an impact on myself and many others throughout our scouting careers. He will be greatly missed.

I was saddened to hear of the passing of Joe. There are many memories of times shared while teaching at Woodlawn School. He will certainly be missed. My thoughts and Prayers are with his family and friends !

Mr. Bunn was my Elementary Principle at Hillsville Elementary. He was always kind, fair and most of all, caring. Field trips to his farm are some of best memories! Prayers for you all as you grieve.

My dear Joel and Amy, I am saddened to learn of your dad's death. I know he was a powerful and good influence on your lives and will be dearly missed. As you share in this hard season, I am holding you in the Light and praying peace, gratitude for a life well lived, and comfort for you and all who loved your dad. Friend from church, high school and Emory & Henry University. Took a while to learn from from him how to start his Studebaker car that with my feet. I remember him working for the highway department in the summer mowing the right-of-ways on Carroll County roads. It was always good to see him and Ruth at E&H homecoming reunions and football games. Blessings for the family and particularly to Joyce.
