Ruby Semones Obituary
Ruby Pauline Horton Semones, born August 19, 1930, passed away on November 16, 2025, leaving behind a lifetime of love, loyalty, and quiet devotion that touched everyone who knew her. Ruby lived 95 long, generous years, and she spent them giving more than she ever asked for in return.
Ruby married the love of her life, Norman E. Semones, on February 7, 1953. For 72 years, they built a life together-one filled with steady partnership, shared routines, and a deep, enduring affection that was obvious to anyone around them. Their marriage was the kind of bond that becomes a family's foundation and a story worth telling.
Ruby is survived by her sister, Erma Lou Newman, as well as her sisters-in-law Esther Bryant and Shirley Semones, and brother-in-law Allen Robinson. She was a beloved aunt to many nieces and nephews, and she held a special place in her heart for Jason, her special nephew. Ruby also embraced Jason Cole as her chosen grandson and treasured caretaker, and their bond was one of the great comforts of her later years.
For more than 70 years, Ruby worked at Sunny Side Store, where she became a familiar and dependable presence to generations of neighbors. She greeted people by name, remembered their stories, and made everyone who walked through the door feel like they mattered. The store wasn't just her workplace-it was a place where she formed quiet connections and offered everyday kindness in the simplest, most genuine ways.
Ruby will be remembered for her steadiness, her soft-spoken warmth, and her unwavering love for her family. She had a way of showing up-day after day, year after year-that made the people around her feel safe and cared for. Her absence leaves a space that can't be filled, but her influence will live on in the lives she touched so gently and so deeply.
Funeral services were held on Friday, November 21, 2025 at Vaughan-Guynn-McGrady Chapel at 1:00 PM and Pastor Wendell Horton officiated. Burial followed in the Semones Cemetery. The family received friends at Vaughan-Guynn-McGrady Chapel on Thursday, November 20, 2025 from 6:00 until 8:00 PM. A guestbook is available online by visiting www.vaughanguynnandmcgrady.com. Back before Walmart, there was Sunnyside, or as we used to call, it Edgar Semones’. Mama used to take me as a kid to buy clothes in the spring and fall at Sunnyside. Ruby was always there, always smiling, always helpful. She will be missed. Condolences to the whole family.

Ruby and my mom, Louona Turman, went to school together. Mom would speak about the love shared with the Semones family. As a child my parents would load our family in the truck and head to Sunnyside. This would have been about 70 yrs ago. Your family business stocked about everything needed for school and life on the farm. We lived in Willis, which was about half way between Floyd and Hillsville. Trips to Sunnyside was a joy which holds many memories for me and my seven other siblings. I was so glad to see Ruby´s obituary on the funeral home website. My computer was shut down by Microsoft and I am using my iPad until Wednesday of next week. We want to extend our deepest sympathy to each member of the Semones family during your time of bereavement. May God richly bless you!

Ruby always helped my mother find our school clothes each fall and boxes to wrap our Christmas gifts. She always had a smile for us when we went to Sunnyside shopping. Wonderful person that I will always treasure her memory.

Ruby was such a wonderful lady. Always wanted to know how you were doing and your family. We had a lot of conversations over the years. At Sunnyside, CVS, post office just wherever we ran into each other. Her and Norm would be eating lunch together down in women’s wear , having their time together. Both were full of life, love and evidently loved being at work together. Loved them both. Sending love hugs and prayers to the family.
