Guiseppe Arnone Obituary
Guiseppe Carl Arnone, best known as Joe C Arnone was born on November 4, 1927 to the union of Gaetano and Aquilina Arnone. Joe was a life-long resident of Aguilar Colorado and graduated with the class of 1945. While in school, he worked part time for the Pay & Pac, Prato's grocery store and operated the movie projector at the Ute Theater. In July of 1946 he was drafted into the Army where he served with the Occupational Forces in Japan and was honorably discharged as a grade fifth technician in April of 1947.
After being discharged he worked for both Baudino Transfer and the Raspon Coal Mine to earn enough money to attend auto mechanics school in Los Angeles CA. After successfully graduating, he returned to Aguilar where he worked for Tollers Ford Motor Company in Trinidad for three years. Joe then opened up and operated Arnone's Service and Repair in Aguilar which he ran for 10 years until they re-routed Interstate 25. At that time, he was hired to teach auto mechanics at Trinidad High School. After five years he was offered an instructor's position by Trinidad State Junior College where he taught auto mechanics for the next 20 years. During his tenancy at the College, he was able to obtain his Bachelors degree from Colorado State University in Fort Collins Colorado and a Vocational Masters degree from Dallas State University in Dallas Texas. He was elected and served as President of the Faculty Senate and served as a Divisional Chairman of the Mechanical Arts Division for 15 years.
Joe was a very active member in his community where he served on the Aguilar School Board during the time the County was reorganized into Six districts and in that term served as President of the School Board. He served on the Aguilar Town Council and President of the Aguilar Booster Club where they won a State award for the four statues that were erected commemorating Aguilar's Centennial. Joe served over 20 years on the supervisory board that audited the St. Anthony's Parish Credit Union and 10 years as Justice of the Peace. Joe also helped Mike Scarfiotti bring in the first television Booster station to Aguilar that provided three television stations to the families of Aguilar as well as the surrounding areas.
After a courtship of three years, Joe married Alice Cattani in 1951. Together they had seven children and were married for 61 years. At the beginning of their marriage, Joe purchased the family's three room home where over the years, built and added on six additional rooms, an indoor swimming pool and a 4 car garage. Joe loved to be in the mountains where he built a 3 bedroom cabin in Stonewall Colorado. One of Joe's proudest moments is when he and Alice were presented with an award when their youngest child graduated from the Aguilar Public Schools. This award reflected the fact that for 35 consecutive years at least one of their children attended Aguilar Public Schools.
Joe enjoyed playing cards, skiing, golfing, riding his motorcycle and visiting with his many friends. He was especially known for his remarkable memory of Aguilar town facts and events as well as always helping anyone who needed it, whether it be mechanics, electrical, plumbing, heating, appliances, you name it, he could fix it.
