IRENE MONTERA
Irene (Mazza) Montera passed away on March 11, 2024. She passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by her children who will continue to honor her legacy by living their lives to the fullest.
Irene was a 1st generation Italian, born on November 30, 1934, in Trinidad, CO to Antonio and Albonina (DeRosa) Mazza, both of whom immigrated from the Calabrian region of Italy in the early 1900s.
She attended Trinidad schools, graduating from Holy Trinity High School in 1953. It was at Holy Trinity where she met the love of her life, John (Ducky) Montera, whom she married on September 10th, 1955. Her love story with John (Ducky) Montera, spanning 67 years, is a beautiful testament to enduring love.
Her dedication to her family, involvement in the family business, and her years of service as a secretary at Holy Trinity Rectory showcase her commitment and hard work.
Irene led a rich and fulfilling life and left a positive and lasting impact on the community, being remembered as a generous and caring person who helped many others. The memories of her kindness and generosity will likely continue to resonate with this community, creating a lasting legacy of compassion.
Irene is preceded in death by her husband of 67 years, John (Ducky), her parents Antonio and Albonina Mazza, her siblings Sisto (Phyllis) Mazza, Frank (Jackie) Mazza, Louise (Louie) DiPaola, Olga (Dan) Masero, Mildred (Cecil) Durden, and her in-laws, Frank (Violett) Montera and Joseph (Bernice) Montera.
She is survived by her children Cathy Montera, Judy (Bob) Shew, Jim Montera, Diane (Audie) Martin, and Steve (Cindy) Montera. Grandchildren include Stacey (Brad) Blasi, Marcie (Travis) Knezel, Scott (Jess) Shew, Shannon (Tyler) McLeod, Jordan Montera, Jace Montera, Emily Montera, and Isabella Montera. Great Grandchildren include Connor & Addison Knezel; Brady, Beau & Brock Blasi; Saylor McLeod, & numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Funeral Services will be held Saturday, March 16, 2024 @ 2 pm at *Mt. Carmel Chapel with Pastor Cary Nelson officiating. A private family inurnment will be held at a later date.
The family would like to extend our deepest thanks and appreciation to Dr. Valerie Borsa and the entire staff of Mount Rose Hospice for their wonderful care and compassion given to our mother, with extra thanks to Jeff Dowd, RN for his heartwarming care and interaction with the family.
Arrangements were made under the direction of the Comi Funeral Home.
