Mary Taylor Obituary

Mary Kay Taylor, born in Raton, New Mexico on September 20, 1952 to Evelyn Esther Oberosler and Leland Orville Taylor (Old Family Name: Luksich), left this earth February 12, 2021.
Mary Kay Taylor was a fireball that lit up our lives. A friend, agitator, advocate, and mother; her fierce heart radiated vibrantly up until its final moment. She was strong. An only child, she survived her parents' cancer and suicide to foster a new family. As a single mother, she brazenly stole her son away from the very fists of Greek patriarchy. When a Mack truck left her body shattered, she refused to let doctors' amputate her arm, just so she could hold her baby boy again. When those around her fell upon hard times, she was their rock and a solace on the other end of the telephone.
No matter how much she hurt, Mary Kay always found the heart to keep us on our toes. Her kindness, moxy and art for living were remarkable. In her short life, Mary Kay fought under a renowned public defender, brought light and independence into the homes of people with blindness across the Four Corners, parlayed in fluent Greek, and wandered on dirt roads from Jerusalem to Paris. She graduated Sandia High School, Albuquerque in 1970.
Mary Kay had a spirit that sought out the light in everyone. She would tell us to 'shine, baby, shine!'
We hope to hold a celebration of Mary Kay's life towards the end of May or the beginning of June, at Four Corners Junction Creek Rehab, Durango, CO. For any questions, or to share stories, photos or condolences with her loved ones, please reach out to her son Alexandros Taylor, 720-487-7520, PO Box 631 Limon, CO 80828.

The obituary says everything. She was a phenomenal woman, tenacious and a wicket sense of humor. This world will miss her energy.

From the first meeting, Mary Kay and I were destined to be the kind of friends who may not talk for a few months but will still finish the last sentence from our last conversation. Not only did she gift me with her humor and her love, but she also shared her beloved son, Alexandros with me. I was lucky enough to share her world in all its beauty, mischief and love. Thank you for gracing my world Mary Kay!

Mary Kay was a good friend and kind neighbor to me and my late wife, Anita. Her smile was contagious and she was the first neighbor I met after moving to Rafter J. My deep condolences to Alex.

She certainly was a fireball! We at Four Corners all loved her very much. I in particular loved her rabble-rousing spirit. Thanks for a beautiful obituary, Alex. She was a very special lady indeed.
