HAMPTON
Maurice Y. Bisson, 81, of Hampton, CT passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday August 20, 2024, after enduring an extended case of Lewy Body Dementia. He was born August 26, 1942, to the late Laura (Thibodeau) and Gerard Bisson.
Maurice was a man of many talents. He was a carpenter, machinist, and professional driver whose skills were second to none, priding himself with the ability to back it in & first shot & when hauling double trailers. In his later years, he ran a successful excavation business and enjoyed woodworking and traveling in his free time. Maurice got tremendous joy from helping others. He was a skilled problem solver which gave him the ability to help his friends and neighbors solve water drainage issues and fix or create tools and equipment to make jobs easier. Maurice was a volunteer member of The Hampton Fire Department and in May of 1986 he was awarded the Hampton Hometown Hero Award for the countless hours he spent assisting the community after Hurricane Gloria. His service to his community continued when, in 2003, he won a seat on the board of selectman on a write-in vote. He later went on to become first selectman for two terms.
Maurice was predeceased by his parents, his first wife, Pauline Veileux Bisson and their daughter, Louise, his brothers, Gilles Bisson and Michael Bisson and his sister, Diane Roberts.
He leaves behind his loving wife, Rose, his loving daughter, Elizabeth, his grandchildren, Rizzelle Graffam and Jacob Graffam, and his brother. Raymond Bisson. He also leaves behind many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
The family would like to extend their sincere appreciation to friends, neighbors and community members who assisted Maurice and his family during his final time with us.
