Neil Mesick Obituary

WILLIMANTIC

Neil Laurin Mesick passed away at home with his family beside him on June 30, 2023, in Willimantic, CT. Born in Queens, NY. on May 14, 1943, to William and Laura Mesick (Laurin).

He leaves his wife of 42 years, Angela Mesick (Guzzardi) and two sons, Neil Mesick Jr. (Aree Brice) and Matthew Mesick from Willimantic, CT. His loving grandchildren, Kira Mesick of Eastford, CT. and Aaron Mesick of Brooklyn, Ct. along with Randi Behan of Richmond, VA. will miss his presence in their lives. He leaves his brother, Glenn and wife, Sherrie Mesick of Salem, CT. and his brother, Billy and wife, Jean Mesick of Naples, Florida. Predeceased are his sister, Carol Ouellette, of Griswold, CT. and his twin brother, Daniel Mesick of Lisbon, CT. He also leaves many cousins, nephews, and nieces.

The Mesick family would like to say a special Thank you to the Hartford Health Care team who cared for Neil during his prolonged illness. A very special note of appreciation to the Hartford Heath Care Hospice team during the end-of-life process for their support, kindness, and guidance. His home care team, better known as Neil's team Lisa and Bobby Bidwell, Corrina Hope, Beth Smith, Lindz Meehan along with Luis and his wife Cely Sanchez. You are all loved, you are family! Those fortunate to know Neil, knew him as a kind and generous man. He was always willing to help those in need. He was an advocate for girls' sports when girls were not considered "Sports Orientated". He loved Willimantic, Eastern Connecticut State College, and UConn Graduate School where he began his 40-year education career. His teaching began with special needs students in the Lebanon school system. He continued as a teacher of the 'special needs' population at Mansfield Training School. He was very civically attuned to his adopted home of Willimantic, serving on the Town Counsel for 20 years. He was a member of the Willimantic Library Board, where he would spend long hours reading every newspaper he could daily! Neil had strong beliefs about fair working conditions and equitable fair wages for state employees. He was CSEA (Connecticut State Employees Association) Treasurer for over 20 years. Neil was a very kind person and we ask those who knew him to please just be kind to others in memory of Neil. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to a charity of your choice.

The gravesite ceremony will be at Ames Cemetary, Lisbon, CT. at 12:00 p.m. on Friday, July 7, 2023, followed by Celebration of Life at VFW Hall, 263 Taylor Hill Rd., Jewett City, CT.
