James Smith Obituary

James R. Smith, 81, of DuBois, PA died Tuesday, March 4, 2025, at Penn Highlands DuBois hospital.

Born on November 26, 1943, in Colver, PA, he was the son of the late Robert G. and Lillian M. (Watt) Smith.

On June 24, 1967, he married Vicki D. (Rice) Smith. She survives.

Jim was a veteran of the United States Army, having served during the Vietnam War.

He retired from National City Bank in Punxsutawney, PA after an over 35-year career in banking.

Jim was a member of the Elk Run Fire Company in Punxsutawney and the Punxsutawney Elks. He was a member of the Episcopal Church of Our Saviour in DuBois, where he was active in church affairs and served as the church treasurer. Jim was an avid sports fan, and especially enjoyed the Pittsburgh Penguins.

Along with his wife, Jim is survived by his children, Jill Fortunato and her husband Michael of Phoenix, AZ and James T. Smith of Lockport, NY; four grandchildren: Rachel and Jeremy Fortunato and Brittany Ford and Savannah Smith; and one sister, Linda Runco.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, March 8, 2025 from 10 a.m. until 12 p.m. at the Baronick Funeral Home & Crematorium, Inc.

A funeral liturgy will be held from the Episcopal Church of Our Saviour on Friday, April 25, 2025 at 10 a.m. with Fr. Timothy Kroh as celebrant.
