James Stiteler Obituary

James E. "Doc" Stiteler, 92, of DuBois, PA died Sunday, August 17, 2025, at The Fountains at DuBois.

Born on July 3, 1933, in DuBois, PA, he was the son of the late Chester W. and Katherine E. (Wall) Stiteler.

He was a veteran of the United States Army having served during the Korean War.

Doc was graduate of Penn State University and The University of Pennsylvania with a Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine.

On January 13, 1954, he married his wife of 71 years, Mary Lee (Calhoun) Stiteler. She survives.

Along with his wife, Doc was the owner/operator of the Stiteler Veterinary Clinic for over 50 years.

He was a longtime member of the DuBois Beaver Meadow Field Trial Association, and spent much of his life fly fishing with friends. Doc's true passion was running his bird dogs. He traveled the country with that passion, and until his final days, could be found in the woods with his dogs in search of ruffled grouse. He won National Championships with his dogs.

He is survived by his children, Cheri McCormick and her husband Larry of Charlotte, NC, Cindy Valentine and her husband Kevin of Medina, OH, and Amy LaMorte and her husband Dan Rawlings of DuBois, PA; five grandchildren: Michael Valentine, Cristi Torre, Shaun McCormick, Jake LaMorte, and Katie LaMorte; three great-grandchildren: Franco Torre, Giovanni Valentine and Carlo Torre.

Doc was preceded in death by one daughter, Jamie Clasky; one grandson, Nick Valentine; and one brother, Bill Stiteler.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, August 21, 2025 from 5-7 p.m. at the Baronick Funeral Home & Crematorium, Inc.

Sincere sympathy to Dr. S´s family. We counted on he and Mary for many years and they never disappointed. If loved pets who have already died meet him as he enters the heavenly gates...look out...those bird dogs are going to be frisky. Sincere prayers for all his loved ones.
