Lorne Gerhart Obituary

Lorne Gerhart, 57, of Martinsburg, West Virginia, passed away on June 5, 2025.

Born on March 29, 1968, in Smethport, Pennsylvania, Lorne was the son of Lloyd and Lois (Severance) Hackett, who predeceased him in death at a young age.

Lorne was adopted by Susan Riss Pellish of Shepherdstown, West Virginia and Guy H. Gerhart MD, of DuBois, Pennsylvania, at the age of 10.

Lorne graduated from DuBois Area High School in May 1986 and served honorably in the U.S. Marine Corps including participation in Operation Desert Shield and Desert Storm.

Later in life, he went on to attend Shepherd University, Shepherdstown, West Virginia, receiving his BA in Political Science. Lorne dedicated his professional career to law enforcement, management and auto mechanics. Lorne taught motorcycle safety courses in Berkeley County, West Virginia. He also volunteered training German Shepherds for law enforcement. Known for his keen sense of humor, creativity, technical skills, and love of animals, including his cockatiel, Ted, Lorne touched the lives all who knew him.

Following his military service in California, Lorne returned to the East Coast residing in Martinsburg, West Virginia.

Lorne is survived by his adoptive parents, Guy H. Gerhart MD of DuBois, Pennsylvania and Susan Pellish of Shepherdstown, West Virginia; his brother, Jonathan Pellish Ph.D. of Washington, D.C.; and his friend, Cecelia Feaster.

Lorne will be deeply missed and forever remembered.

Sue,
I'm so sorry to hear about Lorne. Although it has been many years since we last saw each other, he will always be my friend. I have many fond memories of him. It is crushing to think that he is gone.
