Memories and Condolences

Not sure what to say?

It broke my heart when one of my brothers let me know about this. Mr. Morelli was one of my favorite teachers at Juniata in the 1980s. He had a huge heart. My favorite Mr. Morelli memory happened the last day of school before Christmas break in the sixth grade. He went from classroom to classroom announcing that he come up with an idea for what we could all give Juniata's cafeteria staff as a Christmas present: We would all line up in the cafeteria in silence, eat in silence, and then wait in silence to be dismissed from lunch. His eyes were twinkling as he told our class (Mr. Gusheroski's) his plan, and we all laughed and got so excited about it. Later that day--after the first quiet lunch period we'd ever treated the cafeteria staff to!--Mr. Morelli strolled in, walked up to the front of the cafeteria in front of all the staff, gave us the signal we'd agreed on earlier, and we all shouted, "Merry Christmas!" The cafeteria ladies and custodian were so tickled, and we all laughed so hard. We kids were so proud of ourselves, even though it was Mr. Morelli's idea. :) He was so kind and just a beautiful soul. Love and condolences to you all.

So many good words have already been said about Pete. He truly was a one of a kind person that will always be a legend in the DuBois area. During the loudest wrestling matches in crowded gyms, you could always hear Petey's voice distinctly above everyone else. Pete seemed to always be around in the practice room teaching, helping, and training with the teams. He ran circles around most of us and operated on a different level. He was a great man, I am honored to have had the privilege to have known him. He and his family have been in our thoughts and prayers and he will never be forgotten.

I remember looking forward to wrestling matches at the middle school because Petey was a joy to to watch. He wanted to win each match as much as the wrestler involved. Always smiling and always enthusiastic. I am so sad for all who were close to him

To Mary and Rita and family. How sad I was to read of Peter's passing. I remember stopping at your house with my Dad on the way to Medix Run. You have my deepest sympathy.

November 17, 2014

Petey,
We all would like to aspire to make a difference in a hand full of peoples lives but you made a difference in a whole community. DuBois will never be the same without you! You have inspired and made a difference in so many peoples lives. I am privileged to have known you. I will always remember your smile and matter of factness. I used to love watching you run a wrestling practice with the boys. You are one of the best motivators that I have ever known.
To Sue, Dom, Mario, Geno & the Lundgren family our heartfelt sympathy goes out to you. You have a one of a kind father and husband.

I knew Pete when we were both little kids as he lived next door to my Grandma. I have many fond memories of this.I also watched him dominate as he wrestled for Clarion. Only after reading the Dubois Sunday paper and all of the many memorials did I realize what a great man he became. As small as it was, I am proud to be a part of his life. We talk about role models. He was a role model! God Bless you Pete!

Our deepest sympathies to the family. Pete was a great guy, from Dad to coach, and beyond. Thoughts and prayers with you all.

Dave Yount

November 17, 2014

As a very young wrestler, Pete would light up the lower gym with his smile, and with lightning speed, he would "mop" the mats, and pin any of us (non wrestlers) who were foolish enough to think we could handle him. Quick, and stronger than a bull, he was an amazing wrestler. Had every reason not to be humble, but he was humble. The Bill Yount family extends our prayers, and heartfelt sympathy to the Morelli family, and to his many friends.

I am saddened to hear the loss of Mr. Morelli. Until this day, anyone ever asks who my favorite teacher was during my school career, it was an easy choice, he was always the name I would rattle off instantly. What an inspiring, amazing teacher and man. His jokes and smile could always brighten anyone's day. He always taught me how to better myself and always reach for my dreams. I'll never forget the wonderful memories having him in 5th grade at Wasson. He will be greatly missed. My thoughts and prayers go out to his family and friends during this difficult time..

Death often comes unexpectedly, but hearing about Pete's death shocked me. On campus and in the wrestling room at Clarion, he was full of energy and life which was admirable. He was a takedown master!

Pete (Petey) was a school mate of mine, graduating DAHS class of 1973. I only saw Pete a hand full of times over the ensuing years. But through the years my Mom, who still lives in DuBois, would tell me when she would run into him somewhere, and what a pleasure it always was to talk with him.

She called me the night she found out the sad news about Pete. Then a friend e-mailed me that same night to let me know. One of the things in my response to her was “I will always remember his smile.” I pulled up Pete's obituary a couple of days later, and there was a picture of him; sure enough, there was that unforgettable smile.

And goodness, reading through these condolences, it is evident that Pete was not only a man well loved, but also led a life that was well-lived.

Denny is the only family member of Pete's that I know. My thoughts are with Denny, with Pete's entire family, his wide circle of friends, and the many others whose lives were clearly touched by knowing him.

'Difference': A point or way in which a thing or person is not the same.

Pete was a difference maker. As testament to the message posts our lives are, have, and will be different because of Pete.

As a son he was a difference maker in our parents lives.

As a cousin, nephew, uncle, and acquaintance he was a difference maker in relative's and friends lives.

As a teacher and coach he was a difference maker in co-workers, students and athletes lives.

As a world class athlete he was a difference maker in the wrestling fraternity.

Pete was a difference maker.

Sue, Dom and Jill, Mario and Megan, Geno, and the Lundgren family; I see through you the difference maker Pete was.

Rita, Don, and Lisa I write this with love for all of us to remind us in this time we can be difference makers.

And for all of you who have kept us in your thoughts, prayers, called and written, I want to thank you for allowing Pete, through you, to show us what a Difference Maker he was.

Pete you were a difference maker in my life. All my love, your brother.

Mr.Morelli was honestly more than a favorite teacher, he was like a best friend. He always made me look forward to school the next day. He was my third grade spelling teacher, and he always would tell stories to us and when he'd read us a book he'd act it out, jump on top of cabinets, walk on our desks, and make us laugh until we'd cry. And he'd always tease with the other teachers , and make everyone smile when we were having a bad day. Im so sorry for your loss of this amazing man. He was the best person you'd ever meet. He will never be forgotten, it's been four years since he taught me and I still remember everything. I loved him and always will. Thank you Mr. Morelli.

I wrestled with Pete from 7th grade through high school. It was amazing to watch his raw talent when he started in 7th grade to his becoming one of the best high school wresters in Pa. Even though his talent was great it was his other qualities that drew people to him. It was his humor, charisma, teaching/coaching ability and love of life that made him so special. He was truely a local legend and we are all better for having known Petey.

We pray for God to give you the strength you need to get through this difficult time. Pete's legacy speaks volumes of the model person he was. His easy smile and fun personality will always be remembered. He left his mark in the hearts and minds of those who had the honor of having him as a coach, teacher or friend. He made a difference. He will be missed, but never forgotten.
With love and admiration we celebrate Pete for leaving this world a better place just because he passed through.

My thoughts and prayers go out to Pete's Family and Friends.
I first met Pete in the wrestling room when I was in 7th grade after watching and listening to his Varsity matches. I was in awe. He beat me and worked me to be better. I will always be thankful to my wrestling brother for teaching me toughness early on and what it meant to be a Beaver. His Legacy and Memory will always be alive for all that he touched. RIP my Friend!
