Billy H. Bowman, 72, of New Castle passed away unexpectedly Thursday, September 29, 2022 at Hancock Regional Hospital. He was born May 25, 1950 in New Castle, Indiana, a son of the late Woody and Maedoris (McCune) Bowman.
Bill was a lifelong Dairy Farmer in Henry County, retiring in 2006. He was a member of Young Farmers, White Branch Church of the Brethren where he served as deacon and served on the district board Church of the Brethren. He bowled in a bowling league for many years and was very involved in 4-H. Bill was FSA Chairman, active participant in Brethren Way of Christ, served on the Liberty Township Trustee Committee, Brick Cemetery Board and was a volunteer fireman. Bill and Melody hosted many foreign exchange students. He was an avid Euchre player and reader of crimes & mysteries. He was a Panther football fan, loved his cows and enjoyed mowing. Bill loved attending grandchildren's activities. Most of all, Bill was a child of God.
Survivors include his wife of 51 years, Melody (Craig) Bowman; four children, Heather Marie (Bruce) Hacker of Indianapolis, Honey Celeste (Brian) Hunt of New Castle, Hope Darlene (Dale) Longwell of Geneva and Billy Hugh (Wendy) Bowman II of New Castle; grandchildren, Tyler (Hailey) Hacker, Trey & Toby Hunt, Theodore, Isabelle & Olivia Longwell and Tucker, Conner, Tanner & Sawyer Bowman; great grandson, Skyler Hacker; sister, Karen Fisher (Gene White) of Hagerstown; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
In addition to his parents, Bill was preceded in death by a brother & sister-in-law Danny & Gail Bowman; brother-in-law, Paul Fisher and his mother & father-in-law, Marion & Dorothy Craig.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, October 5, 2022 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle with Pastor Brian Mackey officiating. Burial will follow in Brick Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5:00-8:00 p.m. Tuesday and one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Bill served on many weekends with me on the Brethren Way of Christ weekends. A great Christian man and good friend whom will be sorely missed. RIP Bill.

What a great friend Bill was to everyone. Started 1st grade in Millville with Bill. Always kind and thoughtful thru our 12 school yrs together and after when saw each other. Always with a big smile. My heart goes out to Melody and his family. RIP dear friend.
