David Lee Obituary

David Matthew Lee, 58, of Bloomington, met his Savior face to face on Aug. 1, 2025, after spending a few hours surrounded by loved ones at the peace-filled Hospice House in Bloomington.

Born Oct. 22, 1966, in New Castle, David was the beloved son of George Hugh and Carol (Matthews) Lee. He graduated from Shenandoah High School in 1984 and earned his degree from Johnson University in 1988, answering a lifelong call to ministry.

In 2004, David met and married the love of his life, Kelly. Together they built a home and fiercely loved their three sons – Nolan (18), Griffin (15), and Jayden (14).

For the past 34 years, David faithfully served on staff at Clear Creek Christian Church serving youth, leading worship, facilitating small groups, and – since 2018 – leading as Senior Pastor. God used David to shepherd the congregation with compassion, wisdom, humor and humility. Clear Creek has moved boldly into its mission of opening the eyes of generations to the hope of Christ, with a vision to be a home of hope and healing, where lives are transformed by the gospel!

David was preceded in death by his father, George Hugh Lee and his brother-in-law Jeremy Adkins.

He is survived by his wife Kelly and sons Nolan, Griffin, and Jayden; his mother Carol; his sisters Julia (Greg) Grant and Kim (Glenn) Hughes; four nephews; his favorite niece; several beloved grand-nieces and grand-nephews; his in-laws John and Karen Adkins, his brother-in-law Chris (Marlene) Adkins, and sister-in-law Shari (Don) Miller.

David will be remembered for his ability to listen well, shepherd hearts, and point others to Jesus. He was patient, steady, and calm. He leaves behind a powerful legacy of helping people meet Jesus, exactly where they are. He couldn't wait to get to heaven, and he wanted as many friends as possible to join him! He let people know that they mattered to him, because they matter to Jesus. All are welcome. Truly all. Because ... Jesus.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Clear Creek Christian Church, in honor of David's lifelong commitment to love generously, live authentically, and serve purposefully.

A celebration of life service will be held at 1 p.m., Saturday, Aug. 9 at the Sherwood Oaks Christian Church 2700 E. Rogers St., Bloomington. Burial will follow at Clear Creek Cemetery.

Visitation was held Friday, Aug. 8 from 1-3 p.m., and again from 5-8 p.m., at Clear Creek Christian Church 530 W. Church Lane Bloomington. An additional visitation will be held on Saturday, Aug. 9 from 12 p.m. to service time at the Sherwood Oaks Christian Church.

To Kelly and family. I got to know David through our time at the Twin Lakes Rec Center. We talked often about a wide range of topics. He was always thoughtful, wise, and funny. I considered him a good friend and valued his counsel. Along with many, many people, I'll miss him. Take care.
