Elizabeth (Betty) Griffey, 90, passed away at home surrounded by her family on Monday, Sept. 22, 2025. She was born Oct. 17, 1934, in Shirley, the daughter of James Thomas and Virgie (Hughes) Shaw.
Elizabeth graduated in 1952, from New Castle High School. She married Arthur Griffey in 1951, and they spent 65 years together before his passing. She worked for Henry County Hospital as a dietician and Dana Corporation for 25 years until Arthur retired and then they spent the winter months in Florida. They took many cruises, and she even got a part time job at Publix grocery stores. They vacationed in Sebring, FL before moving to Venice, FL to be closer to family.
Elizabeth survived bile duct cancer in 2016. She attended First Presbyterian Church in New Castle. She was a member of the Elks Lodge and Greensboro Lodge Eastern Star Chapter. Elizabeth loved to watch her soap opera and the Grand Ole Opry.
She is survived by her daughter, Cindy Walls; her sons, Mike Griffey and Gary Griffey; grandchildren, Aaron "A.J." Walls, Jason (Brittany) Walls, Ryan (Hillary) Griffey, Jessica (Matt) Stephens and Aaron Etchinson; great-grandchildren, Mecallah, Austin, Olivia, Mick, Jason Jr., Shadow, Maddelynn, Kayden, Blaze, Ryder, Savannah, Zayne, Bethany, Kameron and Matthew II, Harley Sue and Jordan; great-great grandchild, Zane; sister, Dorothy Brewer; several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Arthur Griffey, sisters, Mary Andis, Flo Clampitt; brothers, Tim Shaw and James Shaw Jr.
Keeping with Elizabeth's wishes there will be no viewing. There will be a graveside service at a later date. Arrangements have been entrusted to Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle. You may express condolences or share a memory of Elizabeth at www.hinsey -brown.com.

Deepest sympathy to the family. I knew Betty from First Presbyterian Church. She was a lovely woman who served her church well and was a faithful member. I always enjoyed talking with her.
