Gary A. Marcum, 84, of New Castle, passed away Wednesday June 5 at Stonebrooke Rehabilitation Center following a brief illness.
Gary was the youngest son of the late Ruth L. and Oscar Marcum.
He attended New Castle High School and took extreme pride in his years of serving the citizens of New Castle as a police officer, city councilman, utility office manager and cemetery groundskeeper. He worked several years at Jack's Donuts carrying on the family legacy. He was most proud, however, of the term he spent as the Mayor of New Castle where he made many lifelong friends.
Survivors include a son, Jamey (Terri) Marcum of New Castle, five grandchildren, Keith (Eliza) of Lake Oswego, OR, Alyssa (Bryan) Marcum of Washington D.C., Zach Marcum of Greenfield, Jordan (Cameron) Goodin and Logan Marcum both of New Castle, eight great-grandchildren, Gwen and Fiona Marcum of Lake Oswego, OR, Evelynn Marcum of Middletown, Colten and Camren Marcum of Greenfield, Ava Norris, Grant and Colson Goodin of New Castle and several nieces and nephews.
Gary was preceded in death by his parents, a son Gary Joe Marcum, and his four brothers Jack, Bobby, Richard and Oscar (Junior) Marcum.
Funeral services will be Monday, June 10, 2024 at 4 p.m. at Rose City Funeral Home. Family and friends may call from 2 until 4 p.m. prior to the service. Cremation will follow with burial at a future date.

Sorry to hear that Gary has passed away. I'll never forget when Gary helped us start our explorer scout troop when he was Mayor of New Castle. He was always dressed very nicely and actually looked like a Mayor. Jamey, my brothers and I wish to express our condolences to you. Take care, and God bless you and your family and friends.
