Gerald L. "Jerry" Hyden, 89, of New Castle, passed away Thursday, Aug. 21, 2025, at Addison Place after a long struggle with Alzheimer's. Born on Oct. 13, 1935, in Ogden. Gerald was the son of the late Arch Hyden of Farmers, KY, and Della Beatrice (Hagerman) Hyden of Henry Co.
A lifelong resident of Indiana, Gerald was a pillar of the New Castle community, where he faithfully served for many years on the New Castle Parks Board.
Gerald proudly served his country as a Medic/Corporal in the United States Army during the Korean War. He worked as the circulation manager for the Courier-Times and also served as the president and inspector of Indiana Weights & Measures.
An entrepreneur at heart, Gerald owned and operated self-service car washes in Anderson, New Castle, Pendleton, Rushville and Fortville.
Those left to cherish his memory are his daughters; Pamela Hyden Bogue (Aaron) of Indianapolis and Kimberly Hyden; grandson, Brian Hyden Bogue of Indianapolis; stepson Daniel Grunden of Chanute, KS, and stepdaughter Janet Truitt (John) of Decatur, IL along with their families and a brother, Michael D. Hyden of West Virginia.
In addition to his parents, Jerry was preceded in death by his wife, Phyllis Grunden Hyden.
The family would like to express gratitude to the staff at Addison Place and AseraCare Hospice for all their exceptional care given to Jerry. His wit, wisdom and welcoming spirit will be missed by many.
Services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 27 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle with Pastor Mark Herbkersman officiating. Military rites will be conducted by contingents of the U.S. Army, American Legion and the VFW. Burial will follow in South Mound Cemetery. Visitation will be 11 a.m. until the time of the service on Wednesday.
Memorial Contributions may be given to the Alzheimer's Association, 2200 Cabot Dr., Suite 460, Lisle, IL 60532, or to the donors' choice.
