Hilda Elkins Obituary

Hilda M. (Cox) Elkins, 88, of Barberton, Ohio passed away Thursday, January 27, 2022 at Pleasant View Nursing Home. She was born March 15, 1933 in Indianapolis, IN.

After graduating from New Castle High in 1950, she married Robert Elkins and they soon began evangelizing. They moved to Fort Myers, Florida in 1960 where they established an Apostolic church and continued pastoring until 1987. In addition to playing the piano, organ, and teaching Sunday School, she earned her degree as a Registered Nurse. She served as Florida UPC summer camp nurse for many years.

Hilda always had a heart for serving the Lord in any capacity. She learned Spanish in her later years to help with the Spanish ministry. She "adopted" many kids along her way, and many considered her a second mother. She enjoyed gardening, sewing, crocheting, antiquing, and many other crafts.

She is survived by her children Doug (Kathy) Elkins, Don (Brigitta) Elkins, Debra (Mark) Balsinger, Darla (Dan) Cutlip; grandchildren Sheila (Robert) Velo, Russell (Nichole) Elkins, Adam (Heather) Balsinger, Keith (Melissa) Balsinger, Sherry (Dejan) Velickovic; 13 great-grandchildren; brother Robert (Theresa) Cox; sister-in-law Nell Cox; and a host of nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband Robert, brother Richard Cox, and brother-in-law Paul (Shirley) Elkins.

The funeral service will be held at the Apostolic Church in Barberton, Ohio on Tuesday, February 1 at 11:00 AM with calling hours at 10:00 AM. The service will be streamed live at www.apostolicchurch.com. Rev. Paul Pamer and Bishop Rod Pamer will officiate. A private family interment will be held.

A special thank you to all the staff at Pleasant View Nursing Home in Barberton, Ohio.
