James A. Carnes Jr. was born on February 28, 1949, in New Castle, Indiana, to James Sr. and Lois Carnes. He passed away on June 19, 2025, in Florida, where he had made his home.
After graduating in May 1967, James began working at Chrysler Corporation. In 1969, he was drafted into the U.S. Army, proudly serving two years, including time in Vietnam. Following his honorable discharge, he returned to Chrysler and continued working there until his retirement in 2003.
James is survived by his loving wife, Patsy (Shelton) Carnes; his son, Nicholas (Teresa) Carnes; and his siblings: Diane (Butch) Gillock, Tom (Janet) Carnes, Beth Hopkins, Bruce (Sharon) Carnes, Jeff Carnes, and Brian (Nancy) Carnes. He is also survived by his sister-in-law, Teresa Carnes; stepdaughter, Shannon Davis; granddaughter, Katie Carnes; step-granddaughter, Madison Davis; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews, and great-great-nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Jennifer Rice; brothers David, Jerry, and Robert Carnes; brothers-in-law Robert Hopkins and Randy Rice; nephew Troy Gillock; niece Teresa Rice; and great-nephew Derrick Wooley.
James will be remembered for his strong work ethic, deep love for family, and above all, his greatest passion – riding his Harley-David.
