Janice "Jan" Hurst, age 68, a resident of rural Bryant, passed away on Saturday, October 5, 2024 at IU Health Ball Memorial Hospital in Muncie.
Jan was born December 9, 1955, in New Castle, Indiana, the daughter of William Frederick and Ruth Ann (Mesengale) Hayworth. She married William "Bill" Hurst on January 26, 1991.
Jan graduated from New Castle High School and earned a Bachelors and Masters Degree from Ball State University. She worked for Jay School Corporation at East Jay Middle School and West Jay Middle School as an Art Teacher for 34 years, retiring in 2012. She was a member of Headwaters Heritage and Balbec Historical Club. She was a member of Friends Church in Pennville and attended Hickory Grove Church.
Survivors include: Her husband: William "Bill" Hurst – rural Bryant, Indiana. Her children: Dustin Tuel (Stephanie Rodriguez) – Pennville, Indiana. Elizabeth Arnold (husband Shea) – Fillmore, Indiana. 2 grandchildren: Hrmny and William Tuel. Sister: Judy Stevens (husband Steve) – New Castle, Indiana. Aunts: Lee Miller – New Castle, Indiana, Norma Hayworth – Lewisville, Indiana
Visitation will be held on Monday, October 14, 2024 from 4-7 p.m. at Williamson-Spencer and Penrod Funeral Home in Portland. Funeral services will follow at 7 p.m. on Monday at the funeral home.
Memorials may be directed to Arts Place in Portland.
