Phillip R. Stewart, 87, passed away peacefully on June 15, 2025, at The Waters of New Castle. He was born on November 21, 1937, in Attica, IN, to the late Roy and Mildred (Wendel) Stewart. Phillip led a life characterized by kindness, gentleness, and a laid-back spirit that earned him the affection of all who knew him.
A proud graduate of Kennard High School, class of 1955, Phillip embarked on a commendable career at Ford Motor Company in Indianapolis, where he proudly served until his retirement in 1997. Phillip was more than just a retired factory worker; he was a kindhearted man known for his helpful nature. He embraced life with a sense of ease that embodied the essence of a good ol' country man. A dedicated member of the Henry County Saddle Club, Phillip found immense joy in trail riding with horses. His passion for horses extended beyond the saddle, as he deeply admired and cherished his horse, Rocky.
In addition to his enthusiasm for horses, Phillip had a keen interest in antiques, old cars, and tractors. He held a special fondness for all things related to cowboys and indians, which highlighted his spirited appreciation for history and the simplicity of country living. These hobbies enriched his life and those around him, building connections through shared interests and stories.
Those left to cherish his memory include his children, Michael (Pamela) Stewart of Straughn, Kristie Duvall (partner Jeff Adams) of Smyrna, TN, and Wade "Woody" Stewart of New Castle; grandchildren, Heather Duvall and Dawn Duvall both of Smyrna, TN, Ross (Samantha) Stewart of Morgantown, and Madison Stewart of Straughn; great grandchildren, Jace Haywood, Wyatt Stewart, Colton Stewart, Eli Stewart, and Isabel Stewart; brother, Keith (Debbie) Stewart of Milford, OH; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Phillip was preceded in death by siblings, Hallie Binion, Ben Stewart, Donald Stewart, and Luther Stewart; and great grandson, Dylan Duvall.
