Vernon Camp Obituary

Vernon Lenoir Camp, Jr.
September 21, 1942-April 20, 2023
Vernon L. Camp, Jr. went on to be with his Savior on April 20, 2023 after a protracted illness.
Born in Atlanta to Vernon L. Camp, Sr. and Lucia Lee Lighfoot, Vernon led a life of generous service and servanthood that is an example for those of us he left behind.
Vernon served in the U.S. Navy from 1962 to 1966, continuing in the U.S. Naval Reserves through 1969.  This was followed by a life of service, especially for and with his wife and soul-mate of over 35 years, Dorothy Stewart Camp, who preceded him in death six years ago.  They were a beloved and familiar duo in service in Dahlonega for many years, particularly with Dahlonega Baptist Church and The Helping Place of Dahlonega. For many years, he was a cheerful and friendly face in the Dahlonega Visitors Center.
Vernon was also preceded in death by his parents, his sister, Patty and his son, Vernon L. Camp III.
Vernon is survived by his brother Larry E. Camp, (Mary), of Myrtle Beach, SC, his sister, Deborah J. Camp Lozito of Sacramento, CA, his daughter Veronica Lynn Camp Sevier (Cameron Skip Sevier), of Dawsonville, GA, five grandchildren, Sarah (Ryan Hancock) Sevier (Atlanta, GA), Elizabeth Jordan (Benjamin) Arias of Chicago, IL, Kendall Robinson (John Sonnenfeld) of Dawsonville, GA, Ora Jayce Scott-Camp and Olen Caden Scott-Camp of Bishop, GA and two great-grandsons, Alder Paul Hancock and Noah Walker Hancock of Atlanta, GA.
A service with full military honors is scheduled for May 17, 2023 at 1:00 p.m. at Georgia National Cemetery, 1080 Scott Hudgens Dr., Canton, GA 30114.
