Mary Cook Obituary

Mary Lena Feltrop Cook, 89 of Searcy passed away at her home on Aug. 27, 2023. She was born Aug. 25, 1934, in Crosby, to Lucy Ellen Edwards Feltrop and William Feltrop.

She was a graduate of Searcy High School, where she was a member of the Lady Lions Basketball Team.

She married Kenneth Cecil Cook on Feb. 17, 1953, after he returned home from serving in the Army. They moved to Texas and Oklahoma for a few years while Kenneth was surveying for Phillips 66. In 1957, they returned to Searcy, where they made their home. While raising three active kids, Mary worked for the Health Department, Garrison's Jewelry/Leslie Jewelers and the Downtown JC Penney. She also enjoyed many years selling Mary Kay Cosmetics.

She was a member of St. James Catholic Church, where she was in the choir, Ladies Guild and Senior Group. She loved her St. James and St. Richard's Church family. She also had a special place in her heart for The Franciscan Brothers.

She was an active member of the Little Indian Creek Extension Homemakers Club for over 60 years. She enjoyed her fun times with the Red Hat Ladies, Farkle with her Senior Group and trips to the casino with family and friends.

She battled health problems for a lot of her life but was always outgoing with a never stop attitude. It was like she was a cat with nine lives, and she lived them all to the fullest!

Left to cherish her memory are her daughter, Deborah Ann Cook Bond and son Anthony Lee Cook (Joni); daughter-in-law, Lillie Cook; her seven grandchildren, Christina Bond Basolo (Bryan), Michael Cook (Tia), Traci Cook Smith (Eric), Jamie Bond Hill (Jimmie), Nicholas Cook (Amy), Melissa Cook Davis (Teddy) and James Christopher Bond; eight great-grandchildren, Madison Cook Cole (Blake), William Allen, James Hill, Joshua Hill, Isabella Basolo, Elliana Basolo, Jonathan Hill and Tristan Davis; and one great-great-granddaughter, Emriella Cole. She is also survived by two brothers, Bernard Feltrop (Betty) and Herman Feltrop (Betty); several nieces and nephews; and other extended family. She will also be greatly missed by many close friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; son, Kenneth Wayne Cook; and son-in-law, James W. Bond; and her siblings, Kathleen Light, Bonnie Nelson, Lyle "Check" Barlow, Margaret Bertram, John Andrew Feltrop, James William Feltrop and Franklin D Feltrop.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. James Catholic Church for the care and upkeep of St. Paul's Cemetery.

We would like to encourage the ladies to wear hats in celebration of Mary's life well-lived.

Services will be held at St. James Catholic Church on Saturday, Sept. 2. Visitation will be held at 8:30 a.m. with the Rosary beginning at 9 a.m., followed by the service at 9:30 a.m. Burial will follow at the St. Paul Catholic Cemetery. Friends and family are invited to Mary's home after the service at the cemetery.

All funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Searcy McEuen Funeral Home.
