Elmer - Albert Appel, 98, of Elmer, New Jersey, passed away at home on Tuesday, August 25, 2020. A graveside service and burial will be held on Friday, August 28, 2020 at 11am in Alliance Cemetery, Norma, New Jersey. Due to COVID-19 restrictions everyone must wear a mask and social distance. My occasional interactions with Albert made a deep impression on me during and after my years as a piano teacher and jazz program coordinator at Appel Farm. It was clear that he cared very much about people, music and education and was also committed to helping the community he helped create survive and thrive. Long live Appel Farm and Albert's music. Thank you, Albert, for your courage in translating your ideals into action.

Albert was very entertaining, kind and funny. Although we hadn't been in touch for many years, I thought of him and our string quartet sessions at his home, followed by delicious meals prepared by his wonderful wife. You'll be missed on this Earth, Albert. RIP
