Clarence Adam Cottrell

The Rev. Clarence Adam Cottrell, 94 of McMinnville, Ore., passed away on Thursday, Aug. 15, 2013, at Willamette Valley Medical Center. His final days were spent surrounded by his wife of 49 years, Pat (Daniels); daughter, DawnKaren Cottrell-Bevill; and granddaughter, Bethany Bevill. "Cotty" was born on Feb. 22, 1919 in Millville to Asher and Eva (Elliott) Cottrell.

Cotty was a prayer warrior and a soul winner. While residing in New Jersey, he pastored the Buckshutem, Mauricetown, Haleyville and Newcombtown Methodist Churches and Christ's Temple. The present Newcombtown church was built during his pastorate. He also did evangelistic work for a time in Arizona. Cotty spent many hours ministering to the sick in hospitals and nursing homes in New Jersey, Texas and Oregon. He was always looking for someone with whom he could share the love of Jesus, the One he now resides with for eternity. Cotty also worked as a wood patternmaker for Wheaton Glass for 27 years.

A World War II Army veteran, who was seriously wounded and left for dead on the battlefield in France, he lived to tell how God divinely healed him after 7½ months of hospitalization. This testimony he shared with thousands. Staff Sgt. Cottrell received a Purple Heart, Bronze Star and other military honors.

His love for fishing and crabbing drew him to the water, especially the Delaware Bay, a love he developed from childhood as he spent much time on the water with his beloved Pop. Cotty also enjoyed walking, golfing and watching MLB, a sport he played well as a young man. He also saw Ted Williams hit his first major league home run at Fenway Park in 1939. Cotty was also a talented artist.

Besides his wife, his daughter and granddaughter with whom he resided, he is survived by a son, Craig William of Newfield; six grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren. He is predeceased by his parents; brothers, Asher and Paul; first wife, Jane (Wallace); and sons, C. Douglass and Keith Matthews Cottrell.
