Lubomyr "Lou" Zapar, 72, of Chesterfield, Va., died peacefully on Monday, Dec. 17, 2012.
Lou touched countless lives as a former administrator in the Chesterfield County Public School System; was active in the Chester Presbyterian Church; and was deeply engrained in the Chester community. Lou was a master woodworker and craftsman who left his legacy across numerous homes, churches and businesses through his company, Heirloom Furniture. Born June 14, 1940 in Krywenke, Ukraine, Lou is the son of Daria Baron and the late Iwan Zapar; brother, Alexander Zapar and wife Fran of Genesse, Pa.; and sister, Zweneslava Zapar Clem and husband Ralph of Jacksonville, Fla. World events would fatefully bring Lou and his family to the United States. He was a Vineland High School graduate, Class of 1959. He met his late wife, Connie Zapar, while attending Virginia Tech.
Lou was a loving husband, father, and grandfather and is survived by his wife, LJ Zapar of Chesterfield, Va.; son, Gregory S. Zapar and wife Stacy of Carlsbad, Calif.; daughter, Virginia Z. Cohen and husband Scott of Virginia Beach, Va.; stepchildren, Lisande and Cameron Champeau of Chesterfield, Va.; grandchildren, Eliza, Quinn, Madeline and Collin; his brother-in-law, William Lewis Straub of Lexington, Va.; along with many loving nieces, nephews, cousins and countless friends. He was a kind and gentle man who was loved by all who knew him. Funeral services were held on Dec. 19 at Chester Presbyterian Church, Chester, Va. Interment followed in the Timber Ridge ARP Cemetery in Lexington, Va.
