Bridgeton - Shirley J. Carman, 76, of Bridgeton passed away on Friday, February 23, 2018 at Inspira Medical Center-Vineland following an extended illness.

Shirley was born in Bridgeton to the late Paul Carman and Daisy Caruthers Carman. She had been a resident of Fairfield Twp. most of her life but had been living in Bridgeton since the mid 1990's.

Prior to her retirement, she had worked for the Cumberland County Board of elections for several years. Shirley had also been employed since her high school graduation by the former Bridgeton Evening News for 33 years in the Business Department and Syngenis Insurance for a few years. After she retired, she had also worked at the Gift Shop at the former Bridgeton Hospital. She was a member of Woodruff United Methodist Church and Soroptimist International where she had served as past president. Shirley enjoyed spending time with her many friends especially at the over 50's luncheon.

Shirley is survived by; her sister-in law, Jennie Carman of Fairfield Twp; two nephews, Peter J. Carman of Fairton and Frank J. Carman of Cedarville; her niece, Shirley M. Carman of Lexington, NC; two great-nephews, Jeremy and Larry; her great niece, Joanna and her beloved cat, Leelah. She was preceded in death by; two brothers, John P. Carman and Irving J. Carman.

Funeral services will be held at the PADGETT FUNERAL HOME, 1107 State Highway 77, Upper Deerfield Twp. on Saturday, March 3rd at 11 AM. Interment will take place at Overlook Cemetery in Bridgeton.
