Geraldine Messacar Obituary

I hate to admit it but I, Geraldine (Gerri) Messacar from Gowen, have passed away with my family by my side on March 25, 2025 at the Brook of Cedar Springs. I was born on June 22, 1933 to Kenneth and Emma Byrne, who have preceded me in death; along with my brother Raymond Byrne, sister Deloris Crissman, brother Edwin Byrne, sister-in-law Nancy Byrne, sister-in-law Rosie Byrne, brother-in-law Lyle Russell, ex-husband Gerald Deitz, and husband Larry Messacar. I leave behind my son Doug Deitz (Connie Small), daughter Lisa McLarty (Jim), son Tom Deitz (Lynn Confer), Roberta Gavit (Tim), step-daughter Lynette (Jimmy) Muller, and step-daughter Angela (Greg) Underwood. I also leave behind my brother Ken Byrne, brother Gary (Sheryl) Byrne, brother Eugene Byrne, brother John (Janice) Byrne, sister Joanne Russell, Sister Rita (Roger) Gotwalt, sister Margaret (Erv) Bradley, sister-in-law Glenna Byrne, brother-in-law Bob Crissman, and many grand kids and great grand kids. I always enjoyed spending time on the lake with neighbors as well as traveling in the motorhome all the way to California and back, praying that we wouldn't break down. I also enjoyed working at Gibson (Frigidaire), bartending at the American Legion, cashiering at Turk Lake Market, and volunteering at Barrie's House (Settlement Lutheran Church). My causes of death, well what can I say? I was 91 years young. I had the pleasure of living at the Brook where they had the best staff (family) putting up with me and taking great care of me even though I was a handful. It was all in good fun. Most of you will remember me by my sarcastic and sometimes inappropriate jokes. I can make light of any situation, even up to my last days. I just can't help myself. For those of you who are wondering who helped me write this. . .it was my daughter Lisa. As you can see, my sense of humor will live on. You are all welcome for that. Thank you all for sharing this life with me. I'm off to raise heck with all of those that left before me. I've heard that every gathering gets just a little more interesting when I show up. Love Gerri (Trouble). Members of the family will meet with friends and relatives 5 to 7 PM Sunday, March 30, 2025 at the Marshall Funeral Home, Greenville. Memorial Services will be 11 AM Monday, March 31, 2025 at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Greenville, with visitation from 10 AM until the service. Burial will take place later in Forest Home Cemetery. Arrangements are by the Marshall Funeral Home, Greenville, with complete obituary online at www.marshallfuneralhomeinc.com where you can leave a message of condolence for the family.

Gerri's sarcasm and Jokes are why so many people liked her. Although it has been quite sometime since I had seen Gerri I know this she will be truly missed.
Prayers are with her family. Joe and Cherie Wood.
