Age 85 of Wilmington, Illinois and formerly of Maryville, Tennessee, died on Thursday, January 27, 2022 at Riverside Miller Rehabilitation in Kankakee, Illinois. Born June 9, 1936, in Maryville, Tennessee, Gladys was a daughter of Hubert and Mary Hood (nee Anderson). On March 9, 1957 she married Melvin Eugene Pogliano, and together they would settle and raise their family in Wilmington. Gladys was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She loved spending time with her family, and her grandchildren were her life. She was a member of St. Rose Catholic Church in Wilmington, and was a big fan of Elvis, which even entailed owning a very large black velvet painting of him. Gladys loved going back and visiting Tennessee, and looked forward to her annual visits around the month of June. Survivors include her husband Melvin Eugene Pogliano, Sr.; two children Tammy (Dave Hazelton) Kahler of Wilmington and Melvin "Eugene" Pogliano, Jr. of Coal City; grandchildren: Jessica (Jeremy) Penfield of Ottawa, Anthony (Amanda) Pogliano of Coal City, Hannah Pogliano of Wilmington, Avery Pogliano of Coal City, Mitch Hazelton and Jake Hazelton, both of Wilmington and Steffanie Hazelton of Fort Collins, Colorado; six great-grandchildren Stella Penfield, J.R. Penfield, Jaxon Trofimchuck, Huxlee Pogliano, Roxzen Pogliano and Weston Penfield who is expected later this year; one brother Phil (Esther) Hood of Webster City, Iowa; a special aunt Catherine Ward of Maryville, TN; several cousins, nieces and nephews Gladys was preceded in death by her parents, Hubert and Mary Hood; sisters Wilma Eichorst, Helen Henke, Edna Coldwater; brothers Charles Hood and James Hubert Hood who died in infancy. Per Gladys' wishes, cremation rites are being accorded. The family will receive friends for a memorial visitation at Baskerville Funeral Home, 700 East Kahler Road in Wilmington on Saturday, February 5, 2022 from 10:00 A.M. until the time of service at 12:00 P.M. Preferred memorials in lieu of flowers may be made as gifts in Gladys' memory to Kuzma Care Cottage or Uplifted Hospice of Kankakee. Family and friends are encouraged to sign the online guest book, upload photographs and share Gladys' memorial page online through social media Cremation services and memorial arrangements have been made under the direction and care of Baskerville Funeral Home in Wilmington.
