John O'Beirne Obituary

John "Jack" Robert O'Beirne

Died: September 3, 2025

Born November 30, 1935, in Chicago, Illinois

Died September 3, 2025, in Farragut, Tennessee

Jack was born to John Joseph O'Beirne and Madeline O'Beirne, nee Gonya in November 1935. He was raised in Flosmoor, IL and graduated from Bloom Township High School in 1953 where he was a three-letter athlete. He played football, basketball, and ran track. He was also an excellent student. He was the very definition of student athlete. Due to his academics, he was awarded a scholarship to Purdue University where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Metallurgical Engineering in 1957. In high school there was a pretty girl who had a locker very near his locker. That was the start of a 75-year partnership. While still in college he married the love of his life, Marion Carrara, and had a son, Greg, before graduation. Upon graduation Jack accepted a job as an engineer with the Aluminum Company of America (Alcoa) in Davenport, Iowa. Shortly after graduation they had a second son, Scott, and within a few short years they were blessed with third and fourth sons, Kevin, and Tim, respectively. After nine years in Iowa, he was promoted and transferred to Evansville, Indiana. Within a short period of time, he was promoted again and was transferred to Alcoa, Tennessee where he and Marion raised their family and became active in the community. There he was involved in the Jaycees, and Kiwanis clubs. After leaving Alcoa Aluminum, Jack and Marion embarked on a tour that involved living in West Virginia, New Jersey, Ohio, Illinois, and South Carolina. They eventually retired to Greenville, SC where they enjoyed the climate and the community. They became regulars at their "Empty Nesters" group even though most of the group were closer to their sons ages. As they moved into the second phase of retirement, they sold their home in Greenville and moved to Farragut, Tennessee to be closer to family. They enjoyed their time back in Tennessee due to its natural beauty and being able to spend time with their kids, grandkids, and great grandkids. Throughout his life Jack was an avid gardener, golfer, and church member. He loved spending time with family and friends. He rarely missed a sporting event or band competition when his boys were involved. He remained very active gardening, mowing the lawn, and driving up to the last few years of his life. Jack was an active mentor to many people in the AA program. He touched so many lives in a tremendous way and was an inspiration to all. One of his proudest moments was to be presented his 40 year "Chip" by his son Kevin in 2024.

Jack was preceded in death by his mother, father, and sister. He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Marion. His sons Greg (Rimma) of Cincinnati, OH, Scott (Tamera) Sugar Land, TX, Kevin (Teresa) Naples, FL, Tim (Royce) Savanah, GA as well as numerous nieces, nephews, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.

Jack died in his sleep, very peacefully, just as he lived his entire life. He was never a stranger and was always a friend to all. While he may be gone from this earth, he will not be forgotten.
