Judith (Judy) Beatrice Clabough
Born: November 8, 1942 | Died: May 24, 2025
Judith (Judy) Beatrice Clabough (née Hembel), age 82, of Maryville, Tennessee passed away peacefully on May 24, 2025, surrounded by her loving daughter Suzanne Dismukes and beloved son-in-law Gregory Dismukes. Judy was born November 8, 1942 in Albany, Georgia, the daughter of Connie and Marvin Hembel and sister of Caroline and Martin Hembel. Some of her best memories were the years spent growing up outside of Savannah, Georgia spending time at her Martin family grandparents' farm in Stilson and playing with her favorite cousin, Ginger Martin. She had a brilliant mind and was a talented artist. She enjoyed playing the flute in the marching band at Everett High School in Maryville, Tennessee. She graduated in 1960 and later attended the University of South Carolina. In 1962 Judy married Don Clabough of Rockford, Tennessee in Atlanta, Georgia, where they moved for his job with Delta Airlines. Their daughter Suzanne of Knoxville, Tennessee was born in 1963. Throughout the 1960s, Judy worked as a hairdresser in Atlanta. After the family moved back to Maryville, Judy was first a stay-at-home mother and then worked at Proffitt's department store while attending nursing school. She earned her degree as an LPN (licensed practical nurse) and took a position at Blount Memorial Hospital in Maryville. She went on to work for Dr. Robert Seaton OB/GYN. Judy adored working for Dr. Seaton and supporting his patients. In the 1980s, after Dr. Seaton's retirement, Judy decided to follow her family's line of work in the airline industry. She relocated to Dayton, Ohio and later Kernersville, North Carolina, to work in reservations with Piedmont Airlines (later taken over by US Air) in Winston. She then transferred to Piedmont Triad International Airport in Greensboro, NC where, because of her tiny stature, Judy had the special assignment of cleaning the wheels and brakes of aircraft during the night shift. She was very proud to be a part of Piedmont Airlines and proud as well of her job climbing inside the wheel wells of aircraft to do maintenance work. She then moved back to Maryville, Tennessee and returned to nursing in the 1990s, working with Dr. Richard White, MD, where she loved her patients and they loved her. She retired in 2010. Judy enjoyed painting and spending time with friends and family. She was appreciated for her feisty and independent spirit, her careful attention to her patients, and her skill in giving painless injections. She will be missed by those who knew and loved her. She is survived by her daughter Suzanne; son-in-law, Gregory; former husband, Don Clabough; brother, Martin; and several nieces and nephews. Judy will be buried with family members who preceded her in death followed by a graveside memorial service in Guyton, GA at the Guyton Cemetery.
