Alan Ricker Obituary

Stonington - Alan Chester Ricker, 75, lifelong resident of Stonington passed away Saturday, Nov. 27, 2021, after his second battle with cancer. Alan was born April 7, 1946, to the late William and Gladys Ricker of Pawcatuck, and was a 1965 graduate of Stonington High School. He also attended Ellis and Thames Valley Technical Schools. At the age of 16, Alan was one of the youngest people to earn his private pilot's license.

On Aug. 19, 1967, he married his high school sweetheart, Donna Reid of Mystic. In November of that year, he was drafted into the United States Army. He served as a technician specialist, working on helicopters and planes at a military base in Vietnam during the conflict until July of 1969.

In the coming years he was a member of the Westerly-Pawcatuck Lions Club, where he eventually became president. He was also a member of the Westerly Yacht Club and volunteered as a Boy Scout Cub Master for his son Jonathan's Webelos Pack.

He and Donna enjoyed traveling extensively but their favorite destination was Aruba where they went for 40 years. Every summer they went to Sandy Point with their friends and children for all their 54 years of marriage.

Throughout all the major events of Alan's life there was one constant, and that was Bill's Tractor Service in Pawcatuck. Bill's Tractor Service was established in 1957 by his father Bill, and Alan started working there with his father at age twelve. In 1990, he and Donna purchased the business, servicing all types of machinery until his retirement in 2018 for a total of 61 years. Alan was always admired and respected by his friends and loyal customers for his honesty and integrity.

Alan is survived by his wife, Donna; daughter Roxanne Ricker-Gunther (CJ) of Burlington, Mass.; sons, Jeffrey (Jessica) of Holliston, Mass., and Jonathan of Mystic. In addition, he is survived by his sisters, Judith Keith and Robin Ricker; and nephews, Cameron and Jason Keith. Also, Jeffrey's daughters, the cutest, most lovable granddaughters, Eleanor 9, and Lillian 6, who will miss their 'Pepe' very much.

Calling hours will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, Dec. 3, at the Mystic Funeral Home located on Route 1 in Mystic. A graveside service followed by military honors will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 4, at the Elm Grove Cemetery in Mystic. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his name to the charity of your choice.

Condolences
I remember growing up on this street back in 2000 - and always riding my bike down to buy gumballs out of the machine. We probably annoyed him & his father but they were always pleasant and it´s a memory from childhood . Again my condolences

My heartfelt condolences to Donna, Judy, Robin and Alan´s many other close relatives and friends. I grew up a quarter mile from Alan and we were best buddies back in those days of the 1950s and early `60s. I have many, many great memories of him and me riding our bikes together, playing in the pastures and barn of the Banker farm, swimming in the nearby quarry, fishing in Anguilla brook and on and on. Like him, I too am a Vietnam vet, so I deeply appreciate his service to our country. I am so glad I got to see him on my last trip home to Stonington. He will be forever remembered and missed.

To the Ricker Family, My condolences to all the family. Alan was always a soft spoken and extremely helpful person, not to mention he was also a fine gentleman. A great businessman, mentor, and an asset to Stonington and Pawcatuck, and just as important a Veteran of the United States Army. Rest In Peace, I will remember you always.

I would like to offer my heartfelt condolences to you and your family. Alan became a good friend over the years as he helped me to keep my business running by maintaining my truck. We had many good conversations about aruba, his boat, and life in general at his garage. I cant begin to tell you how many times he has helped me over the years. What a wonderful human being that i was honored to have met. I am forever grateful for the many conversations we shared. Thank you Alan for everything you did for me. I consider myself truly blessed to have crossed your path. Godspeed my friend.
