Alice White Obituary

New London - Alice E. White passed away peacefully Aug. 27, 2024, at Lawrence + Memorial Hospital in New London, at the age of 73. She was born March 3, 1951, in Throop, Pa., to parents, Alexander and Mary White.

She then resided in Connecticut, spending the last more than 30 years in the town of New London. Alice was a very hard worker and held various jobs up until the time of her passing. She drove tractor trailer trucks; she did janitorial work in the elementary schools; and she also spent several years keeping a part time job at The Day newspaper, among other trades in the restaurant and cleaning businesses.

Alice will be remembered fondly by her family and friends for her colorful sense of humor, generous heart and for being an amazing cook, who would often cook enough food for an army. She would frequently deliver meals to friends, neighbors and those less fortunate. Alice also enjoyed taking trips to Enfield, on weekends and holidays to spend time with her niece Melanie Sullivan, husband Shawn, and her great-niece Olivia. Melanie and Olivia were often known as, "the daughters she never had," and she took great pride in being a part of their milestones and accomplishments. She also took them on many trips/adventures over the years, often on a whim.

Alice is survived by her brother John White and spouse Deborah of Enfield; a sister, Judith DiGiovanni of Enfield; and several cousins, nieces and nephews. Throughout the years, she remained very close with her cousin Diane Colgan and spouse Kevin of Carbondale, Pa. She was preceded in death by her parents. Alice had many wonderful friends who were like family and who helped her tremendously during the last couple of years. Whether it be carrying groceries or laundry up the two flights of stairs to her apartment, driving her to doctors' appointments, or just a wellness call or check in, they genuinely cared about her well being.

Alice will be laid to rest next to her parents at the St. Patrick's Cemetery on King Street in Enfield. Burial will be private and at the discretion of her family. A special thank you to the staff at Lawrence + Memorial hospital for the wonderful care they provided Alice especially the nurses on the critical care unit.

Alice and I worked in the same hallway at one of her schools. She was hard working, dedicated, and kind-and hearing her tell a story was always a treat. All these years later, I still can´t see a pug without hearing her tell me, "They´re the ones that look like they been chasing parked cars." I´m sorry for her loved ones´ loss. May she rest in peace.

To say Alice was a hard worker is an understatement, lol. Her work ethic was second to none. Alice had a "crack wit" and was one of the (spontaneously) funniest people I have ever met in life. She could have given Johnny Carson a run for his money. She was a unique individual who made a lasting impression on all who knew her, I am sure. As a result, she will be sorely missed, but not forgotten. I was saddened to hear of her passing, and send respect and condolences out to her family, friends and loved ones. Alice, may you get the rest and peace you so rightfully deserve, and live on in the hearts and minds of those who knew and loved you. Thanx for the memories.
